Holly Brown: Denim, Glitter Roll, and Braided Twine Frame

Hi folks!  It's Holly posting today, and I'm sharing this fun and patriotic colored card with you today.  I used the Glitter Roll technique where you see the red glitter on the three diagonal stripes, and I used the Braided Twine Frame technique around the sentiment.  Most of the supplies I used are from Classy Cards 'n Such, one of our wonderful vendors here at Technique Junkies.  The sentiment is from Impression Obsession, another wonderful vendor.  I had so much fun creating this card!

Remember the card giveaway I had last time I posted?  How about another one??  :-)  If you'd like to win this card, please leave a comment below with your email address (so I can contact you!).  I'll pick a winner next Friday (June 6).  Good luck!!

EDITED TO ADD:  Congratulations to Melissa Banian for winning this card!  I'll contact you at the email you provided to get your mailing address.  Thanks to everyone for commenting and playing along!

Textured Monochrome

Ann Clack here with a technique from the current newsletter called Textured Monochrome.  My friend, Penny, calls it messy art......though this isn't really messy to create.  ;-)  It does take a little time to dry.  I'm terrible when it comes to waiting for art to dry.....I always want to hurry it along.  In retrospect, I should have left the darker purple off.  Enjoy!

Emboss Gelatos

Today I share with you the
Embossed Gelatos technique

Dungarees kit. It is a great boys kit!

Today there is a big blog hop
starting at the

Maybe you want to take a look.

Thanks for looking!

Have a creative day!

Smooch Direct by Judy Jackson

Sometimes when stamping I do not want to try anything new and I want to use a "tried and true" technique.  And sometimes when I am stamping and need a quick card, I turn to the small drawer in my craft room that holds bits and pieces of what I call card parts.  There are backgrounds, focal images, things I demoed at a stamp convention eons ago, just this and that to use when I need something quick for a card. That is how this card evolved - from the pieces in my "card parts" drawer.

There are three different card parts on this card from my "card parts" drawer.
There is the focal image  using the Smooch Direct technique from the October 2009 TJ newsletter. I stamped and embossed with gold powder the words "with sympathy" from Endless Creations.  The Inkadinkadoo roses were already stamped on black card stock.  The original tutorial says to use black glossy card stock and this is with plain black card stock.

The next part was piece of pale green vellum. It had a greeting stamped in the middle and I knew it might be a long, long time before I would use that greeting so the previously stamped verse is behind the focal image of the roses.

The green vellum is adhered to the embossed card stock underneath.  To do this you only stick one-half of the card stock in the embossing folder and run the folder and card stock through your embossing machine. Half of the card will be sticking out of the folder.  Then take that half embossed card stock piece and turn it around.  Place the un-embossed end of the card stock in a different embossing folder and run it through your embossing machine.  Then I used a sponge with ink from an ink pad and gently rubbed the sponge over the embossed images on the card stock.  That way the embossed areas show up better behind the vellum.  I placed a length of ribbon over the vellum highlighting the middle of the card stock.
I added some gold text weight paper as some layering, added some gold rhinestones as an embellishment, and I am done.
So I wonder -- do you have a "card parts" drawer?  I have a separate drawer with completed ATC's I have made but my card parts drawer usually are only one layer and have had no thought beyond creating that one part.  But there are lots of those "parts."  Sometimes I like to challenge myself to use parts and pieces from the "card parts" drawer.   Can you join me in my challenge to myself and use previously created "card parts" you may have in a drawer, or in a box, or in a bag or envelope?  What can you create from your "card parts" in the next week?
Happy stamping!

Blasts from the Past

Hello there, it's Jackie K here with two cards from way back when. Both of these techniques are from February 2003!! Which just goes to show you how timeless these techniques are.

This first card is the Wonders of Web Spray technique. I have always loved web spray, it reminds me of Silly String that my grandchildren loved so much.

I have used a Technique Junkie Stamp trimmed down to size.

This next card is the Tapestry technique. I love this tried and true favorite. Isn't it amazing how long Technique Junkies has been  teaching us all these fabulous and versatile techniques?

I love the softness of the colors in this technique. You all know how fond I am of the Asian theme...well Pears come in a very close second! I have them all over my house!

I have used my tried and true Stampers Anonymous pear stamps for this card.

Well that's all from me for now. Have a look back and see what techniques  you can remember loving at one time. Have a go at them again. It's fun!
See you back here soon!

Hi there, Tricia here.

Here is my card project for this weeks technique of the week - Textured Monocromes.  I clearly need to keep at this technique, not sure I am liking this card.  My forte is not mixed media but I do like working with all kinds of mediums so I think I just need to practice.

Hope you have a wonderful Memorial Day and thank you to all of our Veterans.  Have a crafty day and thanks so much for stopping by.

Distress Stain Watercoloring

Hello fellow Technique Junkies.  Today I thought I would make an ATC with this week's Technique of the Week--Distress Stain Watercoloring.

I added die cuts (source unknown) to my background and I think it looks very pretty.  This background was so easy to do.

I hope you will be enticed to try this technique and will be watching the Yahoo group for your work.

Have a great week!

Technique of The Week - Dylusions Resist

Hi Junkies,  Tricia here.  This is a card I did for my Mother's Day card for my girlfriend.  It uses this week's Try That Technique called "Dylusions Resist".  The image is from I Brake For Stamps colored with copics.  I used watercolors for the background.  The background stamp is from Stampin Up! It is one of my favorites.

I really love how quick and easy this technique is and how unique and beautiful each background is.  I love using Dylusions and this just adds to that.'

Won't you play along this week?  We love seeing all your creations.

Have a crafty Sunday!  Thanks for stopping by!

Tie Dye Circles by Judy Jackson

It is no secret that the Technique Junkie Design Team gets to play with different techniques for the newsletter long before the subscribers receive the newsletter in their mailboxes.  I made two cards for the April-May  TJ newsletter using this technique.

At the time I made those cards, I thought I am not sure that I "love" this technique and these may be the only cards I make with this technique.  Has this ever happened to you?  You see an interesting technique and you think to yourself, "I need to give that a try," only you did not enjoy using that technique.  You may have even thought I won't do THAT again.  Well, whatever the technique was please consider giving it another go!  As I felt that way about this technique, and of course for this blog week I am assigned this technique - again.

So I just decided I was going to do my best!  Well, the second time was the charm!  I am so happy with these cards and with how the technique came out.  Perhaps I didn't utilize the most pleasing color choices the last time because I really love these cards!  And now I think I want to make a few cards with this technique.

Stamp credits for both cards are the same -- Lily of the Valley and Technique Junkie Rubber stamps. You can find the Simple Sentiments set on this web page - http://www.stampcamp.com/simplesentiments.html.

Have you tried this technique from the April-May TH newsletter?  If not, why don't you give it a try?

Punched Border Flamingo

Today my granddaughters got to spend the evening with us while their parents went to the Blazer playoff game here in Portland.  I needed to make a card for the blog today so I enlisted their help.

They chose the image, then the colors and the border punch.  I colored the image and added the stenciling.  They helped color the prima flowers with the copic air brush system and voila! and darling bird-day card!  They are still busy down in the stamp hole coloring their own flamingos!

I hope you enjoy.  My favorite part is the stenciling.

ATC Fun

As my stamping took shape, I met the Technique Junkies- that was in 2004.  I joined in ATC swaps with other 'Junkies'. Not only do I have samples of many other artists work, I also get to see techniques IRL that I may not have had the time to try- OR- I get to see a technique in more than one sample.
Here is an ATC I made using the Pearly Gelato technique:
This is a portion of an image and a sentiment from Technique Junkies.

Here is this same ATC on a card:
It is always fun to look at images and see how they can be added to an ATC. One of my favorite Asian stamps at Technique Junkies is a background Geishas stamp.
Here I added the Geisha's separately- to background(s) of Pasted Delusions. These ATC's were the first to go in my local monthly exchange.

More pasted Delusions backgrounds with images from Lt-Rt: Firecracker Designs by Pamela (store closed), and the rooster  and sentiment are by SmARTworks (now closed), and the Owl is a pre-colored digital image from DeeDee digi's.

Would you like one of the rooster or theatre ATC's?  Just leave a comment below with a way for me to reach you and I will mail one to you!

We have an ATC swap sign-up right now at Technique Junkies- would you like to join in?  Just drop me a line @ Shellymc2 at Comcast.net

Have a great day!

Technique of The Week - Punched Border Stand-up Cards

Hi Junkies, Tricia here...

It's that time of the week again, Try That Technique of The Week.  This week we are showcasing the Punched Border Stand-up Cards.

I used this Humerous Seniors Stamp from I Brake For Stamps called "Slot Machine Jane".  I colored it up with copics.  The punch is from Martha Stewart.  The background is from the Bodacious Background Stamp CD called Watered Dylusions.  What a fun and cool technique.  I did this card up for our Nana for Mother's Day.  She loves a good slot machine.

I hope to see the wonderful cards you all come up with this week.

Have a crafty Sunday!

Shaped Stencil Giraffe by Judy Jackson

One of the things I love about the Technique Junkie newsletter (and there are many!) is how Pat - and others - come up with ways to use the tools and supplies we have in fun and new ways.  This is one of those techniques!

Stencils have been the "in thing" during the last few years.  We have had brass stencils available for a long time but these stencils are the thin plastic kind.

This technique sparked my creative thinking in how can I make a background that will not only enhance the foreground image but coordinate with it?    I started with looking through my stencils and then chose my focal image stamp.  It worked!

Stamp credits are Prickly Pear for the giraffe and Stampin' Up for the verse.   The giraffe is colored in with Copic markers.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that you are able to take some time to get "inky!"

Birds and Anique Glimmers by Judy Jackson

One of the things I love about the Technique Junkie newsletter is -- well it should be obvious -- learning new techniques!  And every  now and then, there is a technique that just becomes a "go to technique" that I use over and over and over. And one of those techniques is the Antique Glimmers technique from the December 2009 issue. I love the way the backgrounds come out.  I love the way that every background paper is unique.  I love that you can layer on it, stamp on it, layer with it, and a lot of other things. It is one of those very versatile techniques.

I stamped the man looking at the bird in the tree on some card stock on which I used the Antique Glimmers technique. This whole stamp is one of the many stamps form the Technique Junkie line of stamps - and you can find this stamp here -- http://www.stampcamp.com/atc2.html  .

The man and birds image focal point is then layered on a background which was stamped on glossy paper.  I used a Kaliedacolor pad of blues and greens, brayered the ink directly to the stamp before stamping the image. After the ink dried, I applied Versamark ink all over the image and covered it with clear embossing powder.   I had some funky bling type glitter stuff ready and as I embossed the background, I sprinkled on the bling. Then the embossing powder became the adhesive holding the bling in place.  This background stamp is also a TJ stamp and can be found on this web page --
http://www.stampcamp.com/bigstamps29.html.

I hope you have an enjoyable day and you get "inky!"
