TJ Inspirations: Crinkled Watercolors

Every month we feature a technique - and host a challenge -  on the Technique Junkies Facebook group. This month we are featuring the Crinkled Watercolor Technique. (if you are not a member of the group, click HERE to join). Members of the group can play along  for a chance to win a $25.00 shopping spree in the Technique Junkies store..

The fun part about this technique is that you can use quite a few mediums to achieve the same result. Jeanne Streiff used Colorbursts and water in the tutorial below. My original tutorial (found HERE) used watercolors. I have also used Art Anthology's Colorations Sprays, Gelatos, and Peerless Watercolors for the same effect.
Crinkled Watercolors
This is Jeanne Streiff's take on the the Crinkled Watercolors tutorial. Don't have Colorbursts? Use watercolors, sprays, or any other wet medium for the same results.

For this technique you will need:
  • Watercolors, Colorburst, Sprays or another wet medium
  • Water
  • Watercolor Paper
  • Paintbrush
  • Gift Tissue Paper
  • Paint Palette or other non-porous surface
To use Colorburst, add a few drops of a few colors into the palette wells (or the other wet mediums into separate wells. Add a few drops of water.

Using a paintbrush, add the colors to the watercolor paper in random patterns. Apply one color at a time, rinsing your brush between colors.

While the paint is still wet, place some crumpled tissue over the paints, making sure the tissue is wrinkled. Leave the tissue on until the paint dries, about a half hour.
When dry, remove tissue to reveal the pretty texture!

Here is the finished piece, using The Swirl Turtle and the Hello Summer sentiment from the Watermelon Summer Set.
More Inspiration...
These are some of the pieces I did when the technique came out in 2014.

The first features the Goofus Bird:

The second features The Rump:

And finally, the Diva stamp with a saying from That's What She Said:

I hope you are a little inkspired by today's issue. See you next week!

Great work with the Color Bursts. Wouldn't have thought of that.
