Ann's Glimmer Bird

It's Saturday!!  Ann Clack here, hoping that your weekend is wonderful!  Here is a sweet little card for you today.  I wish that you could see this card with real eyes instead of a camera eye.  The naked eye sees a lot more brown on the background than the camera.  The background is a technique called Dabbed Shimmers from the February 2010 issue of the Technique Junkie newsletter.  I just got the sweet little sparrow frame stamp from the Portland Rubber Stamp Convention.  The bird is from RubberStampAve. 

I thought I would try something different by putting some of Ranger's Crackle glue over the image.  I attached the paper (just a little) to the desk so it wouldn't 'walk' away while drying.  When I came back.......HORRORS!........both pieces were all curled up.  I was able to dampen the back and flatten them a little.  Maybe next time I need to use a little less of that stuff!!  I should have used the TJ technique for crackle instead!!  The bird and it's surrounding background were colored with copic markers before covering with the Crackle glue. 

The Dabbed Shimmers background has sooooo much glitz and glam!  I really love it.  I also used some paper that had a shimmer to it from the Paper Temptress.  It was just perfect for this card, don't you think?  You can really see the shimmer of the background and the paper on the closeup picture. I had the metal letter brads in my stash for a long time but they were pewter and I really needed a different color.  So, I colored them with my copic markers and am pleased with the result.  I hope you are inspired to try this technique......it is really quick!

I had such a fun time making cards for the current issue - I was trying to use a lot of Spring-y, happy colors, which is not typical for me. This card was one of my favorites. I will probably never use orange, yellow, and blue in a card again, but it seemed like a perfect color combination with this technique and the Lovely Day stamps from Artistic Outpost!

Try that Technique -- Modern Art

Today's Try that Technique is Modern Art from the April 2005 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. I forgot all about this technique -- but I LOVE the color intensity it produces on your cards! One word of caution, though, you may want to clear emboss your whole card -- sometimes the ink can take forever to dry on this one.

My card uses a sentiment and girl stamp from Repeat Impressions. I am trying to dig deep into my stamp stash these days to find my most underused stamps...and this is one of them. Not an indictment of the stamp itself, of course. I still love these stamps as much today as the day I bought them!

Bandanna Technique

It's Evelyn here.....sharing one of my favorite  techniques:  Bandanna from Aug/Sept 2008.   I have all the new Distress Inks and have wanted to use them for something.   This particular card was created with Stormy Sky, Chipped Sapphire, and Pumice Stone.   ( I also tried a piece of glossy cardstock to see how the colors looked, but the Pumice Stone shows up better on the regular cardstock, as is used on this card.)   The blue layers are Bazzill's Bling line, and the flourish stamp is from Stampington.  The sentiment is from Verve stamps.

One note:   I've tried every kind of white pen, often with frustrating results.   However, I've discovered that the best pen for dots is a Galaxy White Marker, which is what I used for this card.   It has a bullet tip, so doesn't do fine lines.  But it does dots very well!

GLASSY ACCENTS from CHRIS DICKINSON

Hello Everyone-

This is Chris Dickinson using a project that showcases the stamp set from I Brake For Stamps and the technique Glassy Accents from the Technique Junkie Newsletter May/ June 2010 Edition.

These beautiful pictures are from a trip my husband and I took to South Carolina a few years ago. The FRAME is from Basic Grey Origins and the quote is from a pack of Rub Ons I had lying around from DCWV. The white flourishes... are Rub Ons too, but I do not recall where I bought them and who makes them!

Faux Designer Paper and Grungy Flowers

Hello TJ friends! Kathie McGuire here with a Saturday project for you! For this card, I’ve used the Faux Designer Paper Technique from Dec 2008/Jan 2009 TJ newsletter. My background got a little “busy”, but that’s the great thing about TJ techniques. There just isn’t a wrong way to do them!

I stamped various images (borrowed stamps, so I apologize for being unable to list stamp credits) with dye based inks on glossy cardstock to create my Faux Designer Paper. The large fringed flower is a Sizzix die cut. Now I know Martha Stewart has some multi blade scissors for making lots of cuts in one snip, but I confess. I bought mine BEFORE MS came out with hers……..from my Avon lady! The scissors were intended for shredding but come on, what Technique Junkie would actually use them for their intended purpose??

The grunge rose is the ever-popular Tim Holtz technique that I seem to be using a lot these days. They are fast and easy to make and (I think) are the perfect thing to plop on top of a fabulous Technique Junkie background. The punches are various punches in my stash; the swirls are from Sizzix. The bling is from the Dollar Store! And lastly, I added some decorative stitching with my little Janome Sewing Machine. Cardmaking has never been more fun!!
