A little "Off"

Today's card uses the technique called Dye Whitewash from the August 2013 issue.  I had a couple of friends over for a Friday stamp day and we decided to give this technique a try.  I really love the subtle color that it gives to the image.  While playing with the technique, we used my friend's white detail embossing powder.

Tonight as I finished the card up with a sentiment, I grabbed my white detail embossing powder.  Who knew that White Detail embossing powder would have different whites.  Sheesh!  Mine is more "Off" white than real white.  So.....what was I to do.....my sentiment was Off White and the image was White.....       So, I decided to make the card base and the butterflies in off white as well so that it didn't look like a mistake.  It worked out fairly well, making the image popping more from the card.

Washi Shapes for Chinese New Year

I am in Hong Kong today, so thought it fitting that I make a card for Chinese New Year (which is 1/31).

 I used a Michael Strong Kimono die and mounted it on dimensionals with a piece of Mulberry like cardstock I bought in China last year as the backdrop. I used a Copic Marker to color a piece of Silk Ribbon for the sash. The Kanji says Happy New Year. I cut toothpicks for the top and the bottom of the banner. 2014 is the Year of the Horse.

 This is such a fun way to use Washi and a fun new way to look at your dies. We'd love to see what you create!

Tricia Here!  Here is a CAS Valentine Card I made using this Week's Try That Technique - Washi Shapes.

I pulled out my trustee Quickutz...haven't used them in a long time...Love this font and heart shape.

I embossed the background with the Stampin Up! Rose.  Hope you will join us!

Hi Everyone, Jackie K back again with the Technique of the Week;  Washi Shapes. I had such fun with this card. I knew I wanted to use the mannequins but didn't have a die cut so I just used a stamp from Inkadinkado and cut out the torso part. The Paris stamp is from PSX and the Fashion word stamp is from Hearts In Touch. There is no limit as to what can be done with this technique, as there is no shortage of washi tape designs. Also if you use a stamp like I did, well the possibilities are endless!

Washi Shapes

Hello friends.  It's Beth Norman, here with this week's technique, "Washi Shapes."  I wanted to experiment to see how this technique would work with a large background die, and was pleased with the results.  I used my signature bright colours for my Washi Shapes.

Although this technique was zippy quick, my card took me two hours because I spent time on You Tube watching videos learning how to colour skin and clothes with my underused Copics.  Tricia, one of our Design Team members, works with them beautifully and encouraged me to follow You Tube.

My bow tied up pretty.  Some time ago I won blog candy from Shelly, another DT member, and included in that was a big bag of ribbon and a bow maker.  So back to You Tube I went to learn how to use it.

So, my card was inspired by others, along with this week's technique.  Lot's of experimenting for me.

I hope I inspired you to try something new.

Tri Cut Dies

 

 

 

Jackie K here with a Tri Cut Dies . Please excuse the black behind the card but the card dissolved into the background without it. I used Papertrey Ink and See D's Stamps for this card. I really like this technique and have another card using it in the "works."
