Prills and Bricks - Living on the Edge

I'm taking my teenage niece to NYC for the first time this week. I made a fun card to give her along with an itinerary for the trip.

Weird ATC and a Dog of a Tag

Good morning Junkies!  Today, I've got a couple of items for your viewing pleasure.

Up first, is an ATC I created using the  new Double Weird and Double Weird Sayings August releases.

I sprayed the background with Art Anthology Colorations in Plush and Ink Spot.  Then I used the Distressed Removal Stencil Technique found on the Sensational Stencils CD to add some interest to the background.  Next I added some white distressed rubons on the sections of the ATC I knew would show.  I stamped Double Weird onto a piece of card, cut out, and painted with Art Anthology Velvet in Lemon Tart and Fiji (left side) and Fiesta and Fiji (right side).  Their faces were painted with Portobello to give them a flesh tone.  Next, I stamped one of the sentiments from Double Weird Sayings in Versamark ink, embossed with burgundy embossing powder, then cut out and put in place.

Next, I created a tag with with the new Fun and Games release.

I sprayed a tag with Art Anthology Colorations in Glorious and Heart, then mixed some Fiesta Velvet into Mud texture paste and added some interest with the Art Anthology Such a Drip Stencil.

I thin stamped Fun and Games onto a piece of card, cut out, and painted.  The dog is painted with Art Anthology Kona Velvet, the cone with Cotton Velvet, and the sentiment with Art Anthology Timeless Colorations.  I added a few pieces of washi tape for interest and two pieces of matching fiber to drape from the hole in the tag.

These were fun to create and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Doggie Fun by Judy Jackson

Any one who has been reading my blog knows by now that  I am  in the process of  moving my stamp room from  a larger room to a smaller room. Today is my assigned day to post for the Technique Junkie Design Team.  And since I have "enough of my supplies" moved and settled into my new stamp room, I was able to make one card.

I have no ribbons moved, no fibers moved, very little in background paper, two paper cutting tools but only one place to cut with it. The new counter top is still loaded with stuff to sort and put away.

Our neighborhood is sponsoring a multi family garage sale this next weekend.  So I am also trying to get ready for that with all of the things i no longer have room for in my new stamp room. Going from a 10x12 room to an 8x9 room means I cannot keep some things no matter what.  So I have to decide all of that  too.

Dance in the Rain

Happy Saturday Junkies! Pam here today and I am featuring one of my favorite sentiment stamps from Technique Junkies- Dance in the Rain.  I just love the motivation associated with this sentiment! It pairs so well with the beautiful background stamp Sea Waves.

For this project I added some layering with a stencil from the Crafter's Workshop - Mini Raindrops.

I used a watercolor stamping technique for the Sea Waves.  I inked the stamp with various shades of blue/blue green Distress ink, spritzed with water and stamped onto watercolor paper. Over top I placed the rain drops stencil and inked with VersaMark ink and applied Ranger Perfect Pearls for the shimmer. 

The sentiment was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black and covered with clear embossing powder.

A Pont Alexandre III card by A Bushel and A Hug

 Happy Thursday Junkies!  Jerri here today to share a card I made using one of the new August stamps just released. This is a really cool stamp called Pont Alexandre III.  If you love this stamp as much as I do, you may want to jump on over and purchase it while it is still on SALE-15% off until August 8th!

I wanted the watercolor look for this card. Here's how I made the card.

1. I stamped the Pont Alexandre III on watercolor paper.  I chose the smoother side, although you can still see some of the texture from the paper in the stamp, which I like. I used the Ranger Archival Ink Pad in black.  You'll want to use an ink that is waterproof. 
2. To make the cloud like shapes in the top right corner, I used gesso.  I just simply used my craft knife to make a couple of swipes on the top right of my card.  I kept it pretty thin so it would dry quickly.
3. I used some of my blue and purple stains to color the majority of the card front.  I put some of the color on my craft sheet and then sprayed my card pretty well with water.  Using a paint brush, I dabbed the blue and purple color on my card. 
4. Next, I did the same with yellow. I tried to keep the yellow around the lights and then I dabbed some along the street. I tried to make it appear as a reflection.
5. To give the yellow a bit more PUNCH, I sprayed some yellow glimmer mist in the area next to the lights.  I wanted it to be considerably brighter in that area.
6. For the sentiment, I chose a Technique Junkies stamp called Needed to Be. I stamped it on a piece of scrap watercolor paper that I had applied gesso to. I also had hints of watercolor on it. 

The card front and the sentiment were both matted with coordinating paper.

Let's Face It!

Hey Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse back with you for a little inspiration from Pat's August release. Today, I'm featuring another card I made using the Let's Face It Palletini Collection.  This stamp called to me and I had a blast coloring her.

The background started with Distress Paint in Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade.  Once that dried I applied black paint through a Heidi Swapp Stencil using the "Stencil Turn" Technique on the Sensational Stencil CD.

For my image I stamped "Let's Face It 5 #P030" on book paper using Adirondack Espresso Ink. Her face is colored with Liquitex Fluid Ink in Burnt Sienna diluted with water, the lips are Twinkling H20's in Hopeful Honeysuckle, and the Eyes are FW Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic in Genesis Green. Okay, Okay - yes, I have a lot of inks.....

For her headpiece, I stamped it on Amy Tangerine's Rise & Shine paper and clear embossed.  I fussy cut the head piece and applied it back onto the image.  Once everything was dry, I applied Tim Holtzs' "Distress Glaze" because all my mediums were water based and I didn't want it to run when I applied the Gel Medium.  I then created some depth using a Pitt Artist Pen in Brown around her head piece.  This is a great way to complete your paper piecing so it doesn't look disconnected or out of place.  To finish, I colored the flowers with more FW Pearlescent Paint in Waterfall Green and called her done!

Distressed Watercolor Tutorial

Hello fellow stampers!  It's Beth Norman here with a Distressed Watercolor tutorial for you.  I love the soft look of this technique, and it goes so well with the Poppies, Large that I used for my background.  The sentiment was embossed in white over top of paper that was sponged in the Distress Inks that I used for the background.   Always Hope is an August release, and you can purchase it at 15% off, along with all August release stamps until August 8th.

Supplies:  Rubberstamp with large open areas, Distress Inks, embossing buddy, white embossing powder, heat gun, VersaMark, paint brush, watercolor paper, small paint brush, non stick mat

On the smooth side of the watercolor paper, rub your embossing buddy over the entire surface

Generously apply VersaMark over the entire surface area of your stamp

Stamp out your image onto the watercolor paper

Sprinkle embossing powder over top of the watercolor paper.  Shake off embossing powder

Use your heat gun to emboss the image

Press your Distress Inks onto your non stick mat and gently sprtiz with water

Dip your finger into the lightest colour of distress ink and, in a pouncing motion, apply color to your watercolor paper

Continue to add your desired colours to the images as desired

Using a small paint brush, deepen colours in the areas you wish to make darker

My stamp only required a variety of reds and pinks.  You can use a wide variety of colours on your image.
