Dear Patricia,
One of my favorite stamps from the September new release is the image we are featuring today called Birches

The first example of our card uses a quick technique for creating a one-layer card. Then we use the same coloring technique for the second card.

One-Layer Sentiment
This technique uses the MISTI (or a stamp positioner) to create a one-layer card with a sentiment inserted in a background stamp.
Use the MISTI or another stamp positioner to place a sentiment in the top third of a piece of Copic-friendly card stock. Cover the sentiment with a piece of Post-It, or thin copy paper, leaving 1/4" along the top and bottom of the sentiment.
Place the stamped card stock back in the positioner and stamp Birches over the card stock, using Memento or other Copic-friendly ink.  Remove the Post-It, then use a marker and ruler to dray lines above and below the sentiment where the blank area meets the background stamp.
Use a medium beige marker (Copic E31 used here) to draw a solid line along the inside of each of the birch trees.

Use a darker earth tone marker (Copic E97) to draw small horizontal lines along the inside of the birches, over and next to the original marker line. Vary the line lengths, as shown.

Finally, blend the marker lines, using a light neutral gray over the vertical and horizontal lines. Feather the Gray marker in toward the center of each birch, leaving the center white.

Finish card as desired.

The sentiment on this card uses the With Sympathy Set:

With Sympathy_ Set of 5

Another Birch Card
This card uses the same coloring technique on the Birches for the background.

Stamps Used:

Grand Greetings
Small Hawk

I hope you are a little inkspired by today's issue. See you next week!
