Bah Humbug

 

Hi folks!  I hope you all had a nice Christmas, contrary to what you may think looking at this card.  DH always jokes he is a scrooge at Christmas and often uses "Bah Humbug" so what would be more fitting for 8 of his co-workers at Christmas time than Bah Humbug. LOL.  That's ok though, because I sweetened things up by baking individual mini rum cakes which were handed out with these cards.  Last year he passed out store bought cards and his co-workers were asking where the handmade ones were.

I made over 60 Christmas cards this year, and I'll aim for 60 again this year.  Yes, I'm already working on Christmas cards for December.  Crazy?  Not when one is a "planner."  I'm someone who needs to plan everything out.  Springing surprises makes me become discombobulated.  Just ask DH.

Card Deets

1.  Cut green cardstock at 4" x 5 1/4"
2.  Using a dark green ink, ink up the edges over the green cardstock.  Soften the corners by inking colour more in a round shape as you can see in this photo.
3.  Let dry completely to prevent embossing powder from sticking.  I air dried overnight, but you can use a heat gun.
4.  Cover entire surface with an embossing buddy.
5.  Using VersaMark, stamp over your Delicate Snowflake stamp.  Sprinkle with white embossing powder.  Heat set.
6.  Stamp out Bah Humbug out and colour.
7.  Die cut Bah Humbug image with a circular die.
8.  Adhere image to background, using pop dots for added dimension.
9.  Adhere green cardstock to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" white card.

 

Courage

 

 

Hello fellow stampers!  Technique Junkies came out with an awesome November release. I think there’s a little bit of this verse in all of us these days, whether it be mentally exhausted or letting COVID restrictions get to us.  We all could use a bit of courage.  This Courage stamp comes with the verse and lion as one stamp.  The background I felt would best go with Courage is called Seagrass Mat.  Seagrass Mat is not a new release but can be purchased at 10% off just by using my code TJ10Beth.

Moonlight in the Forest

 

Hello stampers! I’m mixing new with old today.  Technique Junkies new stamp is called Forest Buffalo, and the old stamp is Wolf by Moonlight.  I am so in love with these two stamps because they make excellent masculine cards.  My favourite way to use them is with a Color Burst background.  And if luck would have it, Technique Junkies produced Four Little Sentiments, three of which are in the photo above.  Each sentiment fits nicely into the forest floor and looks great with the gold embossing.

A Warm and Merry Christmas

Card Instructions

• Using an embossing buddy, generously rub it over your coloured cardstock, both for background and your cut-out banner.
• Heat emboss using gold embossing powder and heat set Leaves and Berries, Retro Merry Christmas and Warmest Wishes
• Trim your gold embossed cardstock to 3 14/16 inches wide and 5 2/16 inches tall.
• Trim your mat (I used black) to 4″ x 5 1/4″.
• Adhere your Leaves and Berries background to your mat.
• Glue mat onto an A2 (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″) white card.
• Using pop dots, place your sentiment as desired.

What a fun card for you today!  I combined the newly released Mid-Century Sparkle Background with the sentiment from Groovy Christmas.  Instructions for making this card are below.  I recently made a YouTube video on creating a background (as seen with the sentiment above).  To view my video please visit my Color Burst video.

We're only two months away from Christmas Eve, and my envelopes for all of my 50+ Christmas cards are decorated and addressed.  I get too stressed with this part of Christmas cards, that this year I decided to do it sooner, at a leisurely pace.  Usually I'm frantic, keeping my envelopes undecorated and the address just gets slapped on.  What camp are you in?  Let me know.  I will pick out a random winner to win this card and five pre-made Color Burst backgrounds as seen behind the Have a Groovy Christmas. Directions for making my Groovy Christmas card

• Cut cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4" and mat as desired
• Place your Mid-Century Sparkle Background into your Misti
• Using retro-feeling colours of watercolour markers, colour your background--one image at a time.  Once you colour an image stamp it out onto your cardstock.  Repeat if you want a darker image
• Continue the above step until your background is completely covered
• Using a Color Burst background (or other groovy background paper) rub embossing buddy over the background where you will heat emboss
• Stamp out your sentiment with VersaMark
• Sprinkle with white embossing powder and heat set
• Mat sentiment
• Using pop dots, adhere to your sentiment and centre it onto your Mid-Centruy Sparkle Background

Poinsettia Wreath Wishes

 

Hello fellow stampers. Beth Norman-Roberts here. Have you started making your Christmas cards?  I'm about done, but there's always room for making more.  I'm sure you are busy in the U.S. thinking about Thanksgiving preparations.  Here, in Canada, we celebrated our Thanksgiving.  It is a special time of year for me because my daughter was born on Thanksgiving Day.  Her birthday doesn't always fall on Thanksgiving Day because our Thanksgiving Day fluctuates.

 

Put aside your Thanksgiving plans for now, let's focus on Christmas for a moment.  Using Poinsettia Wreath Wishes, set of 7, I created numerous cards and am showing three of my cards here.

Steps to Making the Wreath

• Using brown ink stamp your wreath onto a lightly coloured wood paper or a light coloured cardstock of your choice
• Choose your sentiment and line it up on your stamped out wreath.  
• Using an embossing buddy run over the area made for a sentiment
• Emboss using gold embossing powder
  
• Stamp out a second image on white cardstock if you are only making one or two cards.  If you make more, take the stamp off your block or Misti and ink up just the area of the poinsettia and hand press onto white cardstock.  Repeat as necessary
• Using a circular die, cut out your wreath
• Colour your hand-stamped poinsettia and cut along the edges so you are left with just a poinsettia
• Adhere coloured and cut poinsettia over top of the originally stamped image.  I adhered my coloured poinsettia with a pop dot
• Add pearls to the centre of the flower, and greenery around the flower too
• Embellish your card as desired

I was born in the 60's.  Is that why I love retro so much?  This fun ornament stamp is called Retro Ornaments Background.  Merry & Bright came from Victorian Greetings, set of 6.

Steps to Making Card

• Cut turquoise card to size 4" x 5 1/4" and copper mat at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
• Take a dark colour of ink, such as a deeper turquoise and blend edges, leaving the centre light (original colour of cardstock).  Let dry completely before the next step.
• Rub embossing buddy generously over the entire cardstock.
• Heat emboss using gold embossing powder
• Add a banner with sentiment using the same colour as the mat.  Here it is a copper.
• Whalaa.  You're done!

Directions for Making my Card:

1.  On a piece of gray cardstock, use Cloud Edger stencil and make clouds until you are 2/3 down from top to bottom using black ink.

2.  Using black cardstock, die cut a tree background and adhere with glue.

3.  Stamp Bloody Halloween onto gray cardstock, using black ink.

4.  Add embellishments such as bat diecuts.

Good morning friends!  Hope you had a nice weekend, and are having a good week so far.  Can I tell you about my weekend?  On Sunday I attended a Zoom Gelli Plate workshop hosted by Robyn McClendon.  I'll have more to say about it soon.

Let Go

 Hi stampers!  I hope your summer is going well.  It's crazy here in Ontario, Canada; temperatures are cool most of the time and cloudy with rain every other day.   There is no better excuse than the weather to get time in the stamp room.  

As many of you may have noticed, I love using pencil crayons to colour.  Last week I showed my watercoloured version of  on my blog.  I love how the Accept What is card turned out.  It is embossed in gold and coloured in with Prismacolour coloured pencil.

Hello again there friends!  Hope you're having a great week and enjoying sundae's, ice cream, and if you're from Sarnia, ON, then ice cream under the bridge is what we all like to have!.  It's almost as famous as eating fries under the bridge.  "That" bridge would be the two bridges spanning where Lake St. Clair joins Lake Huron, and is the same bridge we cross to go over to the United States.

I painted my image with watercolours and blended several colours of brown and beige to give the waffle cone a more realistic look.

Escape the Ordinary

 

Hi friends!  I love escaping the ordinary.  How about you?  Leave me a message and tell me how you love to escape the ordinary.  Me?  I like to go to our boat and jump off the side into the cold water.

This was a very fun background that I created for Technique Junkies Framed Seascape stamp and Ocean Frame Sentiments.

Steps to making my card:

1.  Cut a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of watercolour paper
2.  Smoosh  ink onto a silicone mat in a big area and spritz with water.  I used 3 colours of distress inks.
3. Dip watercolour paper into your inked area and smoosh around.
4. Dry with heat gun.
5. Dip watercolour paper lightly onto beaded areas of ink and heat with heat gun.
6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you are happy with your background.  My background was created by repeating these steps four times.
7. When background is dry, ink Framed Seascape onto your background with VersaMark and sprinkle with white embossing powder.  Heat set.
8.  Using a sentiment from Ocean Frame Sentiments, ink up your stamp with VersaMark and sprinkle with gold embossing powder.  Heat set.
9.  Die cut an anchor or other sea die, and ink up the diecut with VersaMark and sprinkle gold embossing powder over top.  Heat set.  Now it looks like a real charm and not paper.  Just a little trick that will surprise the recipient of your card.

Every day should be a Sundae

 

Yum!  These are my kind of yummy Sundae.  Low cal and they don't melt.

I used Momento Black to stamp out my sundaes on the smooth side of my watercolour paper, and placed the sentiment on top.  Using a variety of browns, I tried to make the sugar cups realistic.

Hello there!  I'm really in love with Grunge Flag.  Did you see my Grunge Flag tutorial on how to create faux burnt edges?  

I stamped out my image onto my card front, and then stamped Wildflower Silhouettes. My inspiration was drawn from a drive I took years ago with my sister.  We saw an old barn sitting in a field with the American flag painted on the entire side of the barn.  Wild flowers were growing all around.  It was so beautiful, we got out of the car to take a photo of it, and along the way my sister painted the scene with oil paints.

Hello there.  I hope you enjoyed our new release that went live on Saturday.  I like to get a head start, so as I wait for June's stamps to arrive (to make samples for you), I am already creating folds and such so I am prepared for stamping.

 Pinterest is a good source for finding card folds.  This particular card fold has intrigued me for years, but I never did it because it intimidated me.  Once I followed along with the tutorial, I found it quick easy.  I tried to find a link for you for the instructions, but I can't locate the site where I saw it--LOL.

This new Technique Junkies stamp is called Plant Smiles.  I can never get enough of this style of stamp because I always find it interesting in how the sentiment looks after adding multiple colours.  To do this, simply place your stamp/cardstock into your Misti, or other tool, and colour each word and image in a different colour with watercolour markers.  Do this in small sections and repeat your colouring until the image is nice and crisp.  Once again, I used my handmade flowers to decorate the front of the card.

Grow with Love

Today’s card is perfect for spring.  Fresh green and pink colours were used to create my 3-D card.  The background paper is not designer paper.  It is a background stamp called Garden Party, which was coloured with pencil crayons.  Grow with Love focal point was placed into my Misti (what tool do you use?) and each word on my stamp was watercoloured with watercolour markers.  I huffed on the colour to reactivate the colour, and pressed down, repeating the process two or three times more.

Added to this card is one of my handmade flowers and leaves.
