Brayered Rub-ons

Hello TJ Friends~ Kathie McGuire here to share a card I made using the Brayered Rub-ons technique from the current newsletter. Fast and fun, and a whole new way of using rub-ons! The top portion of the card is silver cardstock run through a Cuttlebug folder, and the medallion piece is a Spellbinders die cut. I used a metal sheet from Add a Little Dazzle, and then after I cut and embossed it, I sanded the black off with a sanding block. Thank you for taking the time to stop by! ~Kathie

Stained Embossing-Butterfly

Hi TJers! Kathie McGuire here today to share a card I made using the Stained Embossing technique. Admittedly, this is my first try doing it. I am so happy I tried it because it's really stunning, yet very quick to do. I used a Tim Holtz woodgrain folder--I thought it would pair well with the Stampscapes butterfly. The butterfly is also an old TJ technique called Expressionistic Watercolor Bleed. Another quick technique which yields dramatic results. Thanks for taking a look at my card and have a nice TJ weekend! Kathie

Technique Of the Week: Alcohol Ink Splatters

Hello from Kathie McGuire. We're bringing you a project from the current newsletter and hope that you'll join in the fun by trying the technique and sharing it with all of the other TJ fans on the Yahoo group. This is the Alcohol Ink Splatters from the latest newsletter. If you want a fast, colorful, knock-your-socks-off background for an image or just for an embellisment (like the flower I used here), then drag out your alcohol inks and spend the next five or ten minutes creating a fabulous one-of-a-kind stunning piece of art. I didn't have canned air, so I took apart an old blow pen, removed the dried out pen, and then used the blow bulb by squeezing it closely to the alcohol inks. The process worked great! This is one of the best techniques I've ever played with on TJ; it's extremely fast, fun, and the results are quite impressive. Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy your day! Kathie

Tri-Shutter Christmas Card

Hello TJ Friends~ Kathie McGuire here on your stamping weekend with a Tri Shutter Christmas card. This technique can be found on the Fancy Folds and Motion CD. 40 of my christmas cards this year were Tri Shutter cards. Although I've been making Tri Shutters for a long time, I had never made so many for Christmas cards. Hands down, I never received so many wonderful calls and emails with comments about the cards. I'll be sharing a lot of them here with you over the next several months, so be sure to revisit me here often! The majority of the panels are covered with purchased background papers. The long, thin center panel(teal colored holly) is metal from Add A Little Dazzle along with the small panels which are silver with a magenta design. I embossed both metal panels with a Cuttlebug folder and then used a sanding block to remove the color. Metal is so much fun to work with! Thanks for stopping by today! Kathie

Brown Bag Gift Pouch

Kathie McGuire here today, and I'm sharing a little brown bag project that I made recently. I used a lunch-size bag I purchased at the grocery store and folded it up to make a pocket. Then, I sewed the sides to keep it shut. I used the Aged Parchment techique from the 6/08 newsletter on the white doily. It was rather fragile, so I carefully brushed on the liquid color rather than soaking the doily directly in the liquid. All of the other items used were odds-n-ends from my stash. The brown paper package tied up with string (like the song--LOL) is a chocolate bar from Trader Joe's grocery store. It measures 4" X 4" so it fit perfectly inside the pouch. The little pick is a dollar store find--I think they're olive picks, but they worked perfectly for my "sign." I hope you've enjoyed the project and thanks for stopping by. Kind wishes, Kathie

Distress Ink Watercolor Sunflower

Hi TJ Friends! Kathie McGuire here today to share the fabulous Distress Ink Watercolor technique from the 12/11 Technique Junkies Newsletter. I'm a day or two early in my post(I usually see you on the first and third Saturday of each month), but I thought this may spark a little bit of inspiration before the weekend gets here. Who knows? You may have time to try this technique if you haven't yet!! The images are from Stampendous, stamped with VersaMark and embossed with gold embossing powder. Then, I painted according to the technique tutorial. Easy! The image was so bold I kept the rest of the card understated. The little addition of fibers helped to round out the project! Thanks for stopping by today and have a wonderful weekend! Kathie

Band Aid Box Cupcake Cards-Paper Piecing

Hello TJ Friends! Kathie McGuire here on your stamping Saturday! Today, I'm sharing a gift project I made for a dear friend who has a penchant for cupcakes. The cupcake image is from The Rubber Cafe. I wanted more than a card, so I decided to make a boxed set of cards for her with a cupcake theme. The technique I used is Paper Piecing from the Feb/2003 TJ newsletter. I stamped the upper part of the cupcake image onto pattern paper. The box is called a Band Aid box. I printed a template onto cardstock and cut it out and folded it. Then, I filled it with four 3" X 3" cards. Thanks for stopping by today and HAPPY TECHNIQUING!

Pencil Over Marker 2/05

Hello Stamping and Paper Crafting Friends~ Kathie McGuire here. Thanks for stopping by today to take a look at one of my recycling projects. For this box, I used an empty container from the Laughing Cow Cheese Wheels. I used a few Spellbinders dies for the circles, minus the first layer (I didn't have a punch or die that was the right size). I hand cut the first layer by drawing around a coffee mug and then cut the cardstock with scissors. Not the ideal method, but sometimes we have to just do the best with what we've got, right? The image layer was made by stamping the rooster image (Stampin' Up! from ages ago) in black ink and then I colored with makers and colored pencils and Gamsol using the "Pencil Over Marker" technique from the 2/05 Technique Junkies Newsletter. I used some red line tape around the top and bottom of the container's sides and added some Stampin' Up! ribbon. This box ended up being the ideal container for two necklaces I made and gave to a friend for her birthday. Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you have a lovely weekend. Kathie

Fancy Folds and Motion CD: Tri Shutter Card

Hello TJ Friends~ Thank you for stopping by today! Kathie McGuire here on your Stamping Saturday. I thought I would share a very simple--but complex-looking card from the Fancy Folds and Motion CD. The Tri Shutter card is surely my favorite design and I seem to make them for almost any occasion. This card was made entirely from a Graphic 45 paper kit. What could be easier? I hope you've enjoyed looking and I sure appreciate the visit. Have a great rest of the weekend! Kathie

Sanded Core'dinations: Metal Style Chocolate Gift Box

Hello everyone from Kathie McGuire. My project today uses a technique called Sanded Core'dinations from the 4/10 newsletter. The substrate for this project is a metal sheet rather than white core paper. I found these sheets at Add A Little Dazzle and thought they'd look good on a box. The box is a Stampin' Up! die and four of the Hershey's nuggets candies fit perfectly in it. I used some silver cardstock to wrap around the candies and ran them through a Cuttlebug folder beforehand. The Fleur-de-lis is a Jolee's embellishment I bought at a craft store. After I die cut the box and put it together, I measured the areas where I wanted to add the bits of metals and simply cut the metal with scissors. So easy to do. I attached the metal to the box with Fabric Glue--it works beautifully! Thanks for stopping by today and taking a look at another one of my chocolate gift box projects! Kathie

Expressionistic Watercolor: 12/04 Newsletter

Hello Everyone from Kathie McGuire. I hope you're enjoying your stamping Saturday.

I'm taking you back in time to the December 2004 TJ newsletter for an old favorite technique of mine called Expressionistic Watercolor. What a fast, easy, and fun technique that will turn the most basic of projects into an explosion of artistic color.

I'm sharing a card which uses one stamp only. I chose the Calla Lily from the now defunct PSX company, but these stamps can still be found on various outlets.

I hope you enjoy this simple, yet artistic card. And I hope it will inspire you to dig out some old issues of the TJ newsletter and remember that sometimes the easiest techniques are the most impressive!

Have a lovely weekend!

Kathie
