Burnished Background on Paperclay

Happy Stamping Saturday from Kathie McGuire! I'm here again with another "twisted" TJ technique. I always seem to have my fingers in Paperclay lately, so here's another Paperclay project with a Technique Junkie technique. I did this technique 2 weeks ago, but I'll explain the details again here. This is from the Agust/September 2011 newsletter. I gave it a bit of a twist by using the background technique on ©Paperclay and instead of burnishing along the lines of a stamp, I pressed a Cuttlebug embossing folder into the clay and burnished with Distress Inks along the lines the folder created. As a note, I rolled the Paperclay out onto a Teflon crafting sheet to the thickness of a nickel, pushed the folder into the Paperclay, and then baked it in my oven for 15 minuntes at 250 degrees. Then, I applied Ranger's Distress inks using the Burnished Background technique.

Paperclay is so light, that I was able to attach it to my card base with double sided foam mounting tape. The background stamp is from The Rubber Cafe; it was stamped onto Kraft cardstock with Distress Ink.

Paperclay Box: Burnished Backgrounds

Hi TJ Friends!! Kathie McGuire here with a Burnished Backgrounds project from August/September 2011 newsletter. I gave it a bit of a twist by using the background technique on ©Paperclay and instead of burnishing along the lines of a stamp, I pressed a Cuttlebug embossing folder into the clay and burnished along the lines the folder created. Whew! Sometimes my mind works overtime morphing techniques, huh? But that's what I LOVE about TJ! A great technique can be morped into many things with a little (or in my case--a lot) of imagination!

As a note, I rolled the Paperclay out onto a Teflon crafting sheet to the thickness of a nickel, pushed the folder into the Paperclay, and then baked it in my oven for 15 minuntes at 250 degrees. Then, I applied Ranger's Distress inks using the Burnished Background technique.

I glued the focal piece onto a box I made (the paper is from Michael's--I'm sports challenged so I don't know if that's football or basketball paper--and I don't want to know, either--lol)and added the stamped "gear" image.

Want a great tip for cutting a gear like this? Here it is: After I stamped and heat embossed the image from The Rubber Cafe, I cut the paper in a circle around the outer edge of the image. Then, I punched inbetween all of those little gears with a 1/16" hole punch. If I had a gear or two with some extra cardstock around it, I gave it a little trim. What a fast and easy way to get through an otherwise tedious cutting job!

Burnished Background meets Tri-fold Shutter Card by Judy Jackson

The first image shows the Tri-fold Shutter card folded flat. The next one shows the opened and sitting on the table. The background (wheeled with Versamark, and embossed in gold) was white card stock which I burnished with sponges and olive ink. I watercolored the butterflies and various highlights in the background. The large F - and the word friend - are also stamped on white cardstock, stamped with Versamark and embossed with gold embossing powder. Then I burnished the "F" with the same olive ink on a sponge. The small purple square was also burnished with plum ink after I stamped the flourishes with white pigment ink and embossed with clear powder. I added large rhinestones to the center of the large flowers. I used background paper for the inside papers and then added more stamping, and/or chunky glitter or microbeads. All of it just adds up to an elegant card!

Using Three Techniques by Judy Jackson

Have you ever looked at a stamp and immediately thought of a technique from a past Technique Junkie newsletter? That happens to me more often these days, but never in the same way it happened on Thursday of this past week. I had some things to return to a craft store -- you know you buy something and only get home to discover you already own it? I am sure that never happens to anyone else, right? :)

While I was there I saw all these stamps that were reduced below 50% off the regular price and of course like any bargain hunter, I had to look. I saw this stamp from Inkadinkadoo and thought -- the Pyramid technique from June 2009 would be perfect for this stamp! Then I saw the saying and thought -- this will go with this stamp and other bird stamps I own. I ending buying several discounted stamps.

However, I wanted to "morph" the Pyramid technique with the Burnished Background from October 2009 because I wanted to emboss the stamped image in black. So the image was stamped with Black Versafine ink and then clear embossed. Then I burnished the ink colors to create the colored background for the Pyramid technique. I used Certainly Celery, Rich Razzleberry, Dusty Durango, and Crushed Curry inks to do the burnishing.

Then I had to decide on how to place the central on the card front -- and the Z-fold technique (from August 2007) popped into my mind. So this card came together as I was working. That often happens to me. I rarely have the "vision" of the finished card in my mind when i sit down to create. Sometimes I do , but not often. Then i needed soemthing to balance the empty space at the bottom and used this saying stamp -- also from Inkadinkadoo. To finish it off, I spritzed a little gold Smooch spray over the top. I think it is a fun card and pretty easy to create!

Glassy Embossing - February-March 2010 TJ

This just a fun card to make, plain and simple. The animal stamps are from Stampin' Up and the background stamp is from Cornish Heritage Farms. I used the Burnished Background technique as well to add some definition to the background stamped area. Such an easy technique to use -- and what a difference it makes. The flowered piece of designer background paper is where you see the Glassy Embossing technique applied. It adds just the right touch to this whimsical card. The ground is applied direct to paper from several ink pads. I find that the small spots are the easiest to use when using the Direct to Paper technique. I used my own cloud template and sponged pale blue ink for the sky. All the animals were colored with my copics.

I am thinking Happy Spring thoughts even though the snow outside my door - still in mounds - does not look Spring! Surely, Spring is on the way! So happy Spring everyone!

Design Challenge

I have enjoyed this challenge. I am away for a while so I created some cards to share while I am away and uploaded them to my computer -- it came along on vacation too. This card uses four different techniques. The flowers in the vase are colored with Smooch Inks with the Watercolor Smoosh technique. The six squares were created with Textured Spectrum, Burnished Background, and Pigment Scrunch. I sprayed Glimmer Spray over the base card. Stamp credits - Stampin' Up.

Burnished Background & Painted Puzzle

Hope y'all are having a wonderful start to your week this week! I also hope you are all enjoying life and the beautiful autumn season. Where I am, the leaves are starting to change their colours and the air is crisp and cold. Just little things I'm thankful for!

Here's a card using 2 techniques, Painted Puzzle, a bonus technique from CD #7 and Burnished Background from the October '09 issue.
