TJ Inkspirations: Watercoloring with Glitter Gloss

I have something to admit.  I have been holding out on you. About a month ago, I got the new Nuvo Glitter Gloss Aqua Pens into my office, and I have been taking them to tradeshows with me. They have been FLYING off the shelves, just by having people swipe them across a black piece of paper or a colored image. So WHY haven't I showed you them before today? Well lasst week was the first time I was able to play with them and to make sure they were "all that and a bag of chips."  I have to LOVE what I sell - otherwise, what is the point? Well, I am love struck once again. These Glitter Gloss Aqua Pens add a fine shine of glossy glitter to EVERYTHING you put them over. They dry glossy, and the glitter stays put. I have been glossing EVERYTHING.  The biggest difference between these Glitter Pens and others I have used is simple: These Aqua pens add an EVEN sheen, without any puddling. They have just the right amount of glitter-liquid ratio.  Today's tutorial uses the Glitter Gloss pens to create a water colored look --- both with Distress Markers and with Nuvo Glitter Markers.. The glitter gloss markers are available in packs of two for $8.95, and I also made a bundle out of ALL the Glitter markers too. Dog Lovers Unite!

Hey Fellow Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse here today with another card from our March 2017 release. Spring and sprung and as we appreciate the beauty of our surroundings, we here at the blog hope you find time to reflect that beauty in an artistic way.

This card is for our dog lovers in the group!  Sorry cat peeps!  You have to admit it's pretty darn funny through.....

The focal image called "Can't Afford The Cat SD764" is simply stamped with Versafine Black Onyx Ink using my MISTI tool, then heat embossed with an application of Distress Inks in Wild Honey and Gathered Twigs over the top.  I used "Paid In Full #P027", a Palettini Collection stamp as way to add additional text for the background of both focal and background images.

I was SO excited to see THIS SET come out in the May Release !  

It's a smaller grouping of 3 large images from

the Let's Face It Series of Palettini stamps.

For the background, I used a technique called

Criss-Crossed Washi from the Washi Tape & Ribbon CD. 

If you're like me and bought (hoarded?!?) lots of Washi tape,

this CD is a MUST HAVE for fun, new ideas!!

The CHEVRON punched pieces uses the awesome PUNCH SYSTEM from Fun Stamper's Journey!

Butterfly Dreams

Hey Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse back with some inky inspiration for this wonderful almost spring day!  I hope you all get a chance to play a little in your craft room while you enjoy the coming of great weather.

For my card today I went monochromatic using the new March Palettini release "Vintage Butterfly Collection #P035."   The technique today is from the Bodacious Backgrounds CD called, "180 Degree Stamping,"  The two inks are Altenew Deep Iris and Lavender Fields.  This technique is super easy and creates fabulous depth to your card.

The sentiment is from "Simple Sentiments Set 3a  #SS03A" simply stamped and popped up on foam. I added two panels of ribbon by Ellen Hutson and finished off with sequins filled with Stickles (I prefer not to see the holes).  I also added a line of Stickles on the edge of the card stock for a little added bling.

Shabby Chic Gift Bag-Stamping on Fabric

Hello Fellow Junkies,
Karen McAlpine here today!  I would like to share how I made this decorated gift bag.  I used one of the new Palettini Stamps from the March releases and stamped on fabric to create this shabby chic project.

Materials List:

Stamps: French Bicycle Collage from Technique Junkies

Ink: Black from Memories

Kraft Gift Bag (I used a bag 8" x 10.5")

CS: dark brown

White Muslin (100% cotton)

Vintage Doily

Brown Lace

Burlap Trim

Leather shoe lace

Sheer Brown Ribbon

Paper Flowers

Fabri-Tac Glue

Iron

Make It:
Note: use Fabri-Tac glue through out to adhere all pieces

• Tear or cut a piece of muslin fabric to desired size about 4.5" x 6"
• Iron the fabric to remove all the wrinkles
• Stamp the image on the fabric with the Memories ink---Note: this ink is good for fabric even though it is a dye ink.  
• Protect ironing board with a press cloth, lay stamped fabric down and cover with a press cloth and iron (no steam) 
• Pressing with the iron will heat set the ink.  I will not be washing this project obviously, but now the ink will not smear.

• Glue the fabric piece to dark brown CS--set aside
• Cut the corner off  a vintage doily.  Note:To keep the edges together, before cutting lay down a strip of tape in area where you want to cut; cut through the tape.  Now, each edge of the doily will not unravel.
• Glue doily to bag   
• Now add the stamped fabric piece

• Glue all the laces and trims to the bag
• Add the flowers and ribbon
• Tie lengths of brown sheer ribbon to the handle

Dreaming and Creating

Making the New Year Weird

It's nearly time to say cheers to the old year and welcome in the new!

I created this card in true celebratory spirit, just letting the ink drop and drip where it may.  But first, I stamped the sentiment, from SS048 Double Weird Sayings, with Stazon Jet Black ink and scribbled over the top of it with a wax crayon to create a resist.

I stamped the cocktail glass from Palettini PS006 Spirited Bunch with Stazon in Metallic Gold on a separate piece of cardstock, and painted it with the gold shimmer ink to fill my glass.  I adhered this to the cardfront and outlined it with a graphite pencil, smudging the lines to make it stand out more against the background.

So cheers to you! I hope you have some creative time set aside over the New Year weekend.

Vintage Botanicals Collage

Hello friends.  Beth Norman here.  I hope my fellow Canadians had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I had a fun weekend which started out with attending an authentic Octoberfest night on Saturday night then went to a friends house for Thanksgiving with her large family.  I had to work on Thanksgiving Monday, but that was okay because I just finished a week's vacation and was rested and ready to get back into routine.

Adult colouring books are all the rage, but who needs them when you can colour up beautiful Technique Junkies stamps like this one?  I used Vintage Botanicals Collage from the Palettini Collection.  I coloured this image with my Prismacolor pencil crayons and OMS while sitting in front of the TV watching my taped TV shows.

Hi, it's Gini, back to share another card with you. The designs on the Palettini Collection from Technique Junkies really lend themselves to coloring with watercolors.  For this Vintage Daisy Collage, I embossed the image first, to keep my lines bold.  Then I started painting with the Spectrum Aqua watercolor pens.  Quick and easy, but elegant. Happy Halloween Card

The cooler temperatures have me pining for Halloween decorations. I think my kids are thrilled…or at least tolerating me as I start to drag the boxes and boxes out of the attic. The way some people decorate for the Winter holidays is how I am about Halloween! The kitschier and kookier, the better!

To kickstart the season, I made this gatefold card using Technique Junkies’ stamps: S599 Bat Swarm and SD447 Happy Halloween Circle.

I started by opening up the gatefold and stamping the Bat Swarm stamp in waterproof ink on the top and bottom flaps, aligning the stamp so that the image would be upright when the card was folded shut.

I sprayed the paper with a heavy coat of Art Anthology Paprika Colorations (note: Rustic could be used instead), and the dragged the edges through some Art Anthology Plush Colorations that I’d sprayed onto my craft sheet and let it DRIP.

Once this was dry, I ran Art Anthology Copper Metal Effects paint over the Dot Matrix stencil along the top and bottom edges.

I stamped the sentiment with waterproof ink onto a manila tag for reinforcement and placed it over a lace cutout, also sprayed with Plush.  After spraying it with the two same Colorations and letting them blend together and dry, I painted the circle with Splashed  Sorbet paint to give is some shimmer.  I then outlined the edge with Perfect Paper Adhesive – Gloss, and sprinkled a mix of three colors of Prills over the top: A Penny Saved (copper), Plum Crazy (purple) and Power Outtage(black), to frame it.  Even the names of those Prills seem Halloween-inspired!

A bit of batty May Arts ribbon completes the design.

Now I need to get my thinking cap on and decide how to best dress up for the trick-or-treating this year...

Good Morning Junkies! Happy Saturday! Pam here today and I am back in the studio after a fantastic two week vacation at the beach and so excited to be creating again!

This week I am featuring two fantastic stamps fromTechnique Junkies Wasted from the Palettini collection and the sentiment Have Wings.

I absolutely love the background stamp Wasted and for this card I stamped it with white acrylic paint to create a resist.  To create the ethereal background Distress Inks were used over the resist.  A second piece was also created with distress inks using the same colors and then the butterflies (Tim Holtz/Sizzix Movers and Shapers)  were die cut from this to coordinate with the background.

The sentiment Have Wings was just perfect to finish off this card! All pieces were adhered using homemade Xyron dimensional adhesive and the Xyron Creative Station.

Planner Dashboard!

Happy Saturday, Stampers!

It's me, again, Robin Redd.

It seems like it's been a LONG time since I've been here.

It feels great, all the same.

Have you jumped on the planner band wagon, yet?

Oh, boy, I sure did!

I've been trying to figure out how to incorporate 

Technique Junkie stamps into my planner.

I came up with this dashboard.  

Yeah, there's a whole new lingo to go with the planner craze.

I used one of my favorite stamps, #P006 Let's Face It 1, for my focal point.

After I stamped her, I painted her hair with Art Anthology's Black Leather Jacket Sorbet to give it some texture and dimension.  I love how it turned out.  

I colored in her face with Prisma Colored Pencils.

I also used Art Anthology's Cayman Sorbet for her eyes and Mi Bella Sorbet for her lips.

I used an old stamping trick, Pick and Omit, with #SDX001 Be Silly.

With a black Pitt Brush Pen, I inked up just the words I wanted, leaving out the word "kind".

Then, I stamped it so it would read, "Be Silly, Be Honest, Be Happy."

I'm taking my teenage niece to NYC for the first time this week. I made a fun card to give her along with an itinerary for the trip.

Let's Face It!

Hey Junkies!

The Crafty Nurse back with you for a little inspiration from Pat's August release. Today, I'm featuring another card I made using the Let's Face It Palletini Collection.  This stamp called to me and I had a blast coloring her.

The background started with Distress Paint in Squeezed Lemonade, Mowed Lawn, Mermaid Lagoon, Picked Raspberry and Spiced Marmalade.  Once that dried I applied black paint through a Heidi Swapp Stencil using the "Stencil Turn" Technique on the Sensational Stencil CD.

For my image I stamped "Let's Face It 5 #P030" on book paper using Adirondack Espresso Ink. Her face is colored with Liquitex Fluid Ink in Burnt Sienna diluted with water, the lips are Twinkling H20's in Hopeful Honeysuckle, and the Eyes are FW Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic in Genesis Green. Okay, Okay - yes, I have a lot of inks.....

For her headpiece, I stamped it on Amy Tangerine's Rise & Shine paper and clear embossed.  I fussy cut the head piece and applied it back onto the image.  Once everything was dry, I applied Tim Holtzs' "Distress Glaze" because all my mediums were water based and I didn't want it to run when I applied the Gel Medium.  I then created some depth using a Pitt Artist Pen in Brown around her head piece.  This is a great way to complete your paper piecing so it doesn't look disconnected or out of place.  To finish, I colored the flowers with more FW Pearlescent Paint in Waterfall Green and called her done!

Winning Hand

Happy Saturday Junkies! Pam here and I am back with another fantastic stamp showcase from TJ.  This is another set I picked up at the rubber stamp show last month and I have been dying to "play" with it lol.

The set is called Winning Hand and it is part of the Palettini line.  There is also a great sentiment to coordinate with this called Lend a Hand.

As soon as I saw the Winning Hand set I knew exactly how I wanted to stamp it-with lots of texture so I used Versamark Ink and covered with Ranger Distress Embossing powder Fired Brick.  This gave the cards some texture and really made them stand out.

For the background I wanted a "card game" feel so I used a The Crafters Workshop Stencil with Ranger Distress ink and created a stencil mono print.  

The top card was restamped and cut out again and "popped" on with homemade Xyron dimensional adhesive as was the sentiment.  The sentiment was also stamped with Versamark and covered with Distress Embossing powder- Black Soot- to match the texture o the cards.

Peerless Watercolors: Organization

Hi!

Today I wanted to share a tip about how I store and use my Peerless Watercolors.

The watercolors come embedded on fabric paper and ready to use. You just touch your waterbrush to the surface and paint activates and is ready-to-use. There are two sizes:

• the original package has 15 colors on approx. 2 3/4" x 6 1/2" pieces.
• the bonus package has 40 additional colors on approx. 2 1/4" x 2 1/2" pieces.

I have two storage methods. I put the full package in a portable set of page protectors sleeves. The picture below shows an option like this, from ScrapRack, called the Divine Nine. The pockets are 4x4 and 4x6 in size.

The pages come in a 10-pack - which will accommodate every one of the available colors, with room to grow.

You can put them into a 12" x 12" binder, or simply attach the pages to a keyring and fold it up, in half, width-wise. Super portable!  I have a slightly different page configuration which is no longer available - but the Divine Nine works just as well.

I painted a little swatch of each color on a small label and attached it to the inside of the pocket.

A great feature of these protectors is that each pocket has a flap to hold in the sheets and keep wet paint from transferring to other colors. It also keeps them from getting dusty. I just lift up the flap, touch my waterbrush to the sheet and let the flap close back onto the swatch. It doesn't waste a drop.

But now that they are out of their original packaging, you may be wondering, how do I know which color is which? I made a standard address mailing label sheet with the paint names on it so that I can list the colors I use in a project. And I'm sharing it with you! Click here to download the PDF file. It is formatted for a 3 column x 10 row (30 per sheet) mailing label.

Now perhaps you caught that the long pockets are about 1/2" too short for the long pieces in the Original pack? That's where my second storage method comes into play - the even-more-portable palette! I cut of the 2 3/4" x 1/2" pieces and attach them to the front page(s) of my sketch book with removable tape.

So now that I've shared how they are organized, I'll share a watercolored stamp image - the P009 Sunflower Centers stamp image. I stamped the image onto hot press watercolor paper using Stazon Midi in Cloudy Sky (gray) ink and colored away using Peerless Watercolors and a waterbrush. The colors are so vibrant!

Art Journaling with Cottage Rose

I love to art journal. Sometimes I write a ton, and then gesso over it, feeling like I got something out of my system. Sometimes I like to make pretty backgrounds with favorite quotes and just consider the time well spent. I think the trend of adult coloring books is great - because it makes art accessible to everyone. But stamps do the same thing, and we've known this forever!

I started this week's page with inspiration from my own garden:

What could be prettier? I made an art journaling page, with a sketch from the photo above which I watercolored using Art Anthology Colorations as a basis for it. Then I thought... I want to make a companion page. So this time, I took step-by-step pictures to share with you!

My recent trend has been to begin with a blend of Art Anthology Colorations sprays all over my background, with a stencil, or not, and followed by using my Palettini P020 Wasted stamp with Gesso or white acrylic paint, randomly on the background. This particular sheet has some heat embossed designs on the corners as well to resist the sprayed color.

Next, I stamped P022 Cottage Rose in Stazon Jet Black onto the background, along the right hand side.

I designed this stamp so that it is relatively easy to create a continuous border with it, by flipping the stamp in the opposite direction. This way it doesn't look like the same image, repeated. In this picture you can see where the two images 'connect' although I'll be taking a journaling pen to the leaf to complete the cross-hatching between the two pieces. You don't have to line things up perfectly for them to work!

I painted Art Anthology Buttercream Sorbet onto the roses. Then I liberally applied Mi-Bella Sorbet paint (deep pink) in a circular motion and dabbing in places to align loosely with the petals of the roses.

I then painted the leaves using Art Anthology Velvet paint in Basil. This paint has a matte finish, versus the shine and shimmer of the Sorbet paint, so that the leaves will become more of a part of the background.

Now it's time to dirty up the background and bring in the elements that I used on the facing page. First I applied Ranger's Snowcap paint to the P020 Wasted stamp and randomly applied this over the flowers and leaves as desired.

Then I used P010 Travel Documents with Stazon Midi Cloudy Sky (gray) and stamped it randomly in the empty spaces. With this image you can clearly see how translucent the paint is; and how much depth you can create by layering all these elements.

As a final step to the background design, I stencilled Art Anthology Sorbet in Drab, along the left hand bottom corner through a honeycomb design. I added a bit of this in Buttercream as well along the right side to create a faux beeswax appearance.

I stamped the sentiment, PD010 Art Mistakes, in Stazon Jet Black to finish the page.

So now we have two facing pages for my art journal. Cohesive design makes it work together!
