Tie Dyed Filters

Hi everyone, Donna here with today's post, which I almost forgot...again!  Well, better late than never, I always say!

Today I'm sharing an ATC that I made using the Tie Dyed Filters technique from December 2003.  Talk about an oldie but goodie!  I made up a bunch of these and had so much fun doing it.  For paint, I just used a cheapo set of Prang watercolors, which for the price have very vivid, transparent colors. The stamps I used are from Outlines and Studio G, and I hand printed the words.

Copic Texturizing

Hi, Junkies, Donna here!

I realized at the last second that I couldn't post the card I planned to share with you today because I made it for a swap, and the recipients haven't seen it yet. I know some of them read this blog so we'll just have to wait on that one.

So instead, I'll share this card I made awhile ago using the Copic Texturizing technique featured in the April/May 2011 newsletter. I used an old washcloth to create a fur texture that's perfect for my bear and for lots of other animals, too.

The stamps used here are from Starving Artistamps, and the papers are from Basic Grey.

Brick Wall...again

Hello, everyone, Donna here. I know I posted an ATC using the Brick Wall (Dec 2010) technique last month, but what can I say...I love this technique!

This is another ATC and I got to use up some really old scraps on this one.  That green ivy paper has got to be 10 years old!  I grabbed a bunch of scraps in yellows and yellow greens, and also threw in touch of pink a bit of contrast.  My hexagons are made with a 3/4" hexagon maker from Creative Memories, and the embossing powder is Zing! lime green.  The cupcake stamp is from Stampendous and the sentiment is Hero Arts.

Blended Blotches

Hi, everyone, Donna here! For today's post, I thought I'd share a set of ATC's that I made using my Blended Blotches technique from the April/May 2011 newsletter. I used Inktense pencils and my favorite sunflower stamp from Starving Artistamps for these.  Each card is done with different colors, in fact, I ended up using most of the 72 colors in my Inktense set by the time I was done.

Brick Wall

Hello everyone, Donna here!

It's my turn to post today, and I've got an ATC to share with you. I used the Brick Wall tutorial from the December 2010 newsletter. I did mine a little differently, though. I used hexagons instead of rectangles and I used scraps of neutral colored papers instead of reds making mine look like a patio rather than a wall. It's an entirely different look, but the technique is exactly the same. I'm not sure about the stamps credit on this one because I ditched the packaging, but it's a clear stamp and I believe it's from Stampendous.

Kissed Folder

Hello everyone...Donna here.  To commemorate Earth Day today, I'm sharing this natural, earthy, and green card that I made using the Kissed Folder technique from the Emboss or Die CD. This is such a great technique to add just a bit of texture to solid stamps, like I did here with my trees.  The tree stamps I used are from Memory Box and the sentiment is from Papertrey Ink.

Faux Delft Tiles

Hi!  Donna here.  I made a card last week with a little Dutch girl image and complete forgot about this technique from the new Emboss or Die CD.  I know, I know...how could I?  To make up for my Faux Delft Tiles faux pas, I decided to showcase the technique in my post today.  Oh my, I'm adding this one to my list of fave techniques!

Cottoned Color

Hello, Junkies!  Donna here, and it's my turn to post again already.  Normally I'd be upset about how quickly time flies, but if it makes spring get here sooner I'm all for it!

For today's post I decided to go back a few years into the TJ archives and use a technique from April 2007 called Cottoned Color.  It's a very simple technique that yielded me some really pretty and shimmery backgrounds.  The instructions call for reinkers, but really, you can use any waterbased medium that you can get into a liquid form.  I don't have any reinkers in pretty colors, so I actually used Derwent Inktense pencils for my backgrounds.  I just shaved some lead into a palette cup and let it dissolve in some water.  Worked pretty well!

The image I used on this card is a Digi from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps.

Hammered Hardware

Hello, Junkies...Donna here.  I'm sorry to be a little late posting today, but sometimes the plan just doesn't come together.  I'm sure you know what I mean.  I sat down yesterday to make a card for today's post and nothing seemed to work out.  Colors didn't work together, techniques came out less than perfect (gasp!), and my designs fell flat.  So what did I do?  I set everything down and stepped away from my table.  Today, I went back in there and finished up the very same card I had been working on yesterday with no problems.  Go figure!

So here's my card, better late than never.  The technique I chose to highlight this time is Hammered Hardware from the Dec 2006 newsletter.  Instead of hardware, though, I made a hammered frame.  It doesn't show up as well in my photo, but in real life, the gold frame is nicely dented and distressed.  The technique called for Ranger Perfect Ink Refresher, which I didn't have so I used a two-way glue pen instead.  It worked out well but I think my Perfect Pearls stuck more than they would have with the Ink Refresher.  No matter--I still love the way this looks and will do it again for sure.

The stamps I used on this are brand new from Starving Artistamps.

Pop Up Tunnel Card

Before Pat releases her next amazing CD, I thought I'd share a card I did for the Fancy Folds and Motion CD using the Pop Up Tunnel card tutorial. This is a very easy fold to do and I think it adds so much interest to a card.  The stamps I used are from I Brake for Stamps, colored very quickly with Prismacolor pencils. 

Pencil Highlights by Donna

Hi, Donna here!  I contribute to this blog on the second and fourth Friday of each month, and since this is the second Friday in January, here's my card.  The technique I chose to feature is called Pencil Highlights and it was published in the Sept./Oct. 2010 issue of the newsletter.  I used the technique on the background panel and the stamp I used is from Rubber Stampede.   The rose, which I embossed with Ranger Tea Dye Distress Embossing Powder, is from the DoodleFactory Backlit Blooms collection from Starving Artistamps.

Designer Tiles

Happy Friday, everyone!  Donna here with one of my favorite techniques from the August 2008 newsletter--Designer Tiles.  I love paper and can't bear to throw away even the tiniest piece so any technique that allows me to use some of my precious scraps is an instant favorite.

The stamps I used on this card are from Inkadinkado, and the "grout" between my tiles is Tim Holtz Distress Embossing powder in the "old paper" color.  The Distress embossing powder is kind of sandy and gritty, and it really does look like grout...perfect for this technique!

Cricut and Stamp, June/July 2010

Hi!  Donna here with what is actually the "Cuttlebug and Stamp" technique in my case.  This technique was the online bonus for the June/July 2010 issue. Handmade flowers are all the rage right now, and I've been fooling around with different ways to make them. I thought these flowers came out pretty cute--they remind me of hollyhocks. When I have a few minutes to spare, I plan to make of a bunch of them from some of my scraps so that they are ready to go when I need them.

Sanded Core'dinations Texture Duet

Hi!  Donna here with my first Design Junkies post.  I'll be posting on the second and fourth Fridays of the month from now on.

The techniques I chose to use are Texture Duet (October 2010) and Sanded Core'dinations (April 2010).  I didn't even realize that these two techniques had just been showcased here when I chose them, but that's OK.  These techniques are so versatile, and I think it's fun to see the different looks that are possible using the same basic steps.

The Core'dinations paper I used on my card is called Black Magic, and I love the stuff so much it's hard not to hoard it.  Frankie is from the DoodleFactory Ghoulies collection from Starving Artistamps, as is the sentiment.  I colored both with Copic markers, and you can't see it in this picture, but Frankie's eyes and the letters are shiny because I went over them with a glaze pen.
