Masked Backgrounds

One of the first reasons I fell in love with Technique Junkies stamps were their awesome backgrounds.  Today I played around with several backgrounds and a masking technique.  Remember you can get 10% off your order using my discount code TJ10Stephanie.

After spending time last week with my sister's cat Simon, I was inspired to make some cards featuring Coffee Kitty ... this stamp is very easy to cut for masking (I just cut off the whiskers from my mask, and it worked just fine).  I started by using my MISTI to stamp him on a white cardstock.

I stamped him a second time on masking paper to cover up my first stamped image, and then I positioned my Textured Newsprint background and stamped it in Fantasia Versafine Clair Ink.

I trimmed to even up the white border and then mounted my image on a purple card base.  I paired him with a sentiment from I've had my Coffee.

I finished with a few purple sequins.

The great thing about a mask is that you can use it several times.  Just be sure the ink on the masking paper is dried, so you don't rub it onto your next card (don't ask me how I know this).  I paired the Coffee Kitty with the Flower Doodles Background using Brown for the Cat and Tiger Lily Orange for the background.

For this cat, I paired him with a sentiment from Cat Greetings with the coordinating sentiment on the inside.

I hope I've given you some fun ideas for how to use your Technique Junkies background stamp collection ... go give masking a try.

TJ Inkspirations: Life, Beer, and Masked Images

One of the new stamps released in May is a fun image called "Life and Beer." Today's tutorial uses the Beer Mug from the stamp and a favorite from last year called Sudsy Stuff
to create a border of masked mugs in one layer on the center of the card.
Even better, the whole thing sparkles. I used the Nuvo Glitter Gloss Aqua Pens to add a fine shimmer over the colored stamped mugs.  It is easy -- and fun!

Before we get to the video, I just want to remind you that we are having a second release in May -- next week, on Tuesday, May 15 - to celebrate the release of 15 New stamps from the fabulous Rita Barakat. I have seen much of the artwork - so gorgeous, and you won't want to miss it!

Deck the Halls

Hello Everyone!

Lee Ann here, with an elegant Christmas card to share with you.  When I saw this Draped Ornament stamp, I knew I had to have it.

Such a simple stamp and yet so elegant!

I started by creating a simple template of the image.  I stamped the image on scrap paper and then loosely fussy cut it out.  This helped me to determine final placement of my images.
I stamped the image a total of 3 times.  The first time I stamped the image off center to the left on the card base.  The second time I did a bit of masking of a few ornaments.  I also used the template to determine exact placement of the second stamped image.  This one was stamped off center to the right.
The third image was stamped and the ornaments colored with Copics.  Then the image was fussy cut out.  I adhered it to the card using dimensional tape.  I added light shadows to the background ornaments with grey Copics.
The sentiment is from the Gifts of Christmas stamp set.  I added some shimmer to the ornaments with Wink of Stella.

I hope I have inspired you!  When I am not here, you can find me on my blog at Greytpapercrafts.blogspot.com.

Happy Mother's Day!

Today is our day, fellow mothers. Our day for breakfast in bed, a little pampering, and lots of love. Today I am honoring my Mother-in-Law, Linda Huntoon, who is both my mother, and my friend too. I am fortunate to have this lovely woman in my life.

Linda's card was made using the Long Stemmed Rose and the You are the World Set on a white card front. The rose was stamped and masked, then colored with Chameleon Color Tone Colored Pencils.

I added some black paper along the top and bottom edges, then border punched the pink cardstock layer before placing it over the card base. Silver brads were added to the punched flower centers to finish the card.

It wouldn't be complete without a stamped inside, too:
Whatever you are doing on this Mother's Day, whether you are the pamper-er ot the pamper-ee, I hope it is great for you!

Warmest Regards,
Pat Huntoon

Ombre Watercolor Resist by Judy Jackson

This is such a fun technique to try - and I have learned from a couple of efforts that you cannot use highly detailed background stamps for this technique.  The background needs to have some detail but not highly detailed.  This background from Cornish Heritage Farms is almost too detailed.    The tree stamp is also from CHF.  This card is an example of using an existing ATC I created for a swap months ago.  When I make ATCs for swaps I always make a few extra for this very purchase.

I am looking forward to the next newsletter - only a short time now until Pat mails it!  It will be filled with wonderful techniques as usual.

Hope your summer has some craft time included!
