Happy Birthday Blog Hop -- starting with Judy Jackson

Hello from Judy Jackson.  This has been an exciting month hasn't it -- watching Pat Huntoon post all of those wonderful cards and techniques day after day!  So today the entire Design Team wish a very Happy Birthday to the Technique Junkie newsletter --- without which we would not know all of these wonderful techniques.  I hope the Technique Junkie newsletter has many, many happy returns!  Just in case you didn't know by now, but I love learning new techniques!

Pat Huntoon asked the Design Team to share a card (or more) on this blog hop -- and we are to use one of our favorite techniques!  There are a lot of techniques I use a lot so I had to think about that a bit.  But my absolute TWO favorite techniques are Antique Glimmers and Cuttlebug Smoosh.   So I designed 3 cards to share with you today and they all use Antique Glimmers and one card also uses Cuttlebug Smoosh!  I really enjoy using two techniques on one card!

The first card in this blog post uses an adorable little girl from Stamping Bella.  The verse is from Stampin' Up!  I used Distress Markers scribbled on plastic for the watercolors to paint the little girl.

I bought this beautiful house stamp from Heather's Stamping Haven in Nepean, Ontario, Canada.  It is a Frog Whisker's Ink stamp.  I was there for a family reunion and if there is time, I always want to go there. The verse is from Stampin' Up.  I used a scrap of  a die cut underneath the focal image which I colored with my Copic markers.

This card uses both the antique Glimmers technique and the Cuttlebug Smoosh technique.  I used Mudd Puddles sand and shells for the embellishment.  Stamps are from Stampin' Up! and Artistic Outpost.  I used watercolor pencils to color the focal image.

So here you have three examples using Antique Glimmers from the December 2009 Technique Junkie newsletter and one example using both Antique Glimmers and Cuttlebug Smoosh (October 2007).  All three cards have very different looks.

I have been a subscriber of the Technique Junkie newsletter since the summer of 2003.   It  has been one of the most worthwhile stamping - scrapping purchases I have ever made.  The newsletter has enabled me to more fully utilize the products I already own, and in addition to understand how to use many of the products on the market -- both new and old!  If you are not a subscriber, I have to ask why not? I do not believe you would be sorry.

And now for the rest of the Birthday Blog Hop!  There is a wonderful prize at the end of Pat Huntoon's blog.  One of the comment posters will be in a random drawing and will become a Guest Designer for one newsletter! That is an exciting opportunity!

Here is the list of the Blog Hop participants.  follow the Hop along until you get to Pat's blog.  And please enjoy the Happy Birthday Blog Hop!

I am going to tell you now that some Design Team members and Pat Huntoon herself live under the "most likely" areas to lose power because of Hurricane Sandy. So please be patient with this blog hop and with Pat Huntoon. There may well be broken links because of the storm.   Thanks for your understanding.

Ann's Inky Bands

Ann Clack here!  Inky Bands is from the most recent TJ newsletter.  I've had that wide ribbon for absolutely ages.  It was just a little too wide for most of my cards so it just sat.  Then I saw a cool technique using felt, folded, snipped and attached to an adhesive circle.  I thought....Hey!  I could do that with this wide ribbon too!  It isn't felt but it should work just the same.  I think it made a pretty cool flower.  After the flower was made the Inky Bands technique seemed a natural to compliment the colors of the ribbon.  The panel looked a little lonely, so I drew random lines around the outside edge.  The Hero Arts sentiment finished it off.  Hope you enjoy!

Two More In the Middle Cards by Judy Jackson

These In the Middle cards are more examples of how versatile this technique is.   The stamp credits for both of these cards are from Stampin' Up and Heather's Stamping Haven.

Have you tried this technique yet?

Technique Thursday

Good Mornin' - Nancy Dawson here with another Technique Thursday! We haven't been doing the Try that Technique BUT you are welcome to play along and post your creations to the message board.

This is the Puzzle Layers Technique featured in the October, 2010 Technique Junkie Newsletter. I love it - it's fun to piece the focal image together in all different directions! You do have to color several of the images to make it work.

Hope you enjoy it! He is such a 'happy' scarecrow! I have also done this technique using photos for a unique scrapbook layout.

Let's see what you can do with this fabulous technique.

Happy Stampin'

Tag Fence

Hello everyone, Jackie K here with a Tag Fence card from June/July 2012 newsletter Bonus technique. Most of the stamps used were odds and ends I've had for ages. The sentiment stamp is from Bon Ton Stamps and all paper is from the Paper Temptress. Quite a fun technique and easy once you decide on your stamps and general design. I have always loved the blue and brown color combination....how about you?

I hope you are all doing well and are not too stressed over your Christmas cards, LOL! I am creating mine in my mind, that's as far as I've gotten.

Be well, stay creative! See you in two weeks!
Thanks for stopping by,
Jackie K

A Bevy of Butterflies! by Judy Jackson

Butterflies are so pretty say I -- from Judy Jackson.  I certainly enjoyed seeing Viceroy butterflies on my butterfly bush during late summer.

The In the Middle technique is both a fun and easy technique from the October/November newsletter.  These stamps are from Stamp Camp - an advertising vendor for the Technique Junkie newsletter. Have you checked out their stamps?  Very good quality stamps.

Have you stamped today?

In the Middle Sympathy

Ann Clack here with a technique from the most recent newsletter.  This is called In the Middle.  I changed it up a little by using a border stamp instead of drawing a line.  I think it jazzes is up a little.  Sometimes your mistakes make something even better!  I originally punched the bottom of the panel but my punching wasn't much to be desired so I cut it off.  After punching a better scallop edge on a separate piece of paper, I cut it narrow and mounted below the original panel.  I like it better this way!  In retrospect I could have put little pearls on each scallop for some bling.  Maybe I will!  Hope you enjoy.  The green swirl is from Prickly Pear stamps.  I really love that swirl!!  The purple flowers and blue butterflies are from an Inkadinkado set....same with the border.  The words (there are some on the inside that go with the outside sentiment are unknown.  I got them at a Rubber Stamp Convention ages ago.  I know this because they have the hook and loop on the back of them.  That was the first type of unmounteds that I did.  Now I just use Tack N Peel with bare rubber.  Much easier!

Hi Junkies!  It's Holly posting today, and I made this fun Collapsing Cupcake box to share with y'all.  The tutorial for this great technique is on the brand new Great Gifts CD.  The Great Gifts CD contains 40 brand-new tutorials for gifts for all occasions! I decorated my cupcake box with rosettes.  The directions for making these rosettes are in the fabulous Rosette Wreath technique, also found on the Great Gifts CD.  The picture below shows what the box looks like when you untie the ribbon:

Isn't that cool?  I had fun making this box.  Just think of all the different patterned papers you could use for making your own cupcake box.  Use fall papers, Christmas papers, Valentine papers, birthday papers - the possibilities are endless!

Embossed Edges by Judy Jackson

The Embossed Edges Technique creates a wonderful "frame" for the focal point image on your card.   The only trick is to leave enough room around your focal image to do the embossing.

Don't you like this beach scene of these antique sail boats from Stamp Camp? I like it very much! Stamp Camp is a new vendor for the Technique Junkie newsletter. Be sure and see her ad for her company.  I used a retired Old World background from Stampin' Up.  I colored the focal image with Copic markers.

I think is a great masculine card, do you?

Have a creative day!

Hello Dear TJ Friends! Kathie McGuire here to share a little bird card with you. The background is a pre-made paper which is also pre-punched on the corners. I got it as a gift from a friend, and this wonderful friend also gave me a package of the brad-like brad embellisment I used in one of the corners. Thank goodness for the Curled Corner technique from the Feb/2000 newsletter, because it allowed me to find the perfect place on the card for this wonderful little doo-dad. The bird and the bird cage are a Tim Holtz die cut. The gems are a gel-like sticker I purchased at Michael's. One other little addition is some sparkly spica pen on the tree branches. Thank you for stopping by today and taking a look! Kathie McGuire
