Punched Border Flamingo

Today my granddaughters got to spend the evening with us while their parents went to the Blazer playoff game here in Portland.  I needed to make a card for the blog today so I enlisted their help.

They chose the image, then the colors and the border punch.  I colored the image and added the stenciling.  They helped color the prima flowers with the copic air brush system and voila! and darling bird-day card!  They are still busy down in the stamp hole coloring their own flamingos!

I hope you enjoy.  My favorite part is the stenciling.

ATC Fun

 As my stamping took shape, I met the Technique Junkies- that was in 2004.  I joined in ATC swaps with other 'Junkies'. Not only do I have samples of many other artists work, I also get to see techniques IRL that I may not have had the time to try- OR- I get to see a technique in more than one sample.

It is always fun to look at images and see how they can be added to an ATC. One of my favorite Asian stamps at Technique Junkies is a background Geishas stamp.

 Here I added the Geisha's separately- to background(s) of Pasted Delusions. These ATC's were the first to go in my local monthly exchange.

 More pasted Delusions backgrounds with images from Lt-Rt: Firecracker Designs by Pamela (store closed), and the rooster  and sentiment are by SmARTworks (now closed), and the Owl is a pre-colored digital image from DeeDee digi's.

TOTW Punched Borders Stand Up Cards

These cards are quite versatile and using the punches make the possibilities endless. Give this technique a try and post your artwork to the Yahoo group for all of us to enjoy.

Technique of The Week - Punched Border Stand-up Cards

It's that time of the week again, Try That Technique of The Week.  This week we are showcasing the Punched Border Stand-up Cards.

I used this Humerous Seniors Stamp from I Brake For Stamps called "Slot Machine Jane".  I colored it up with copics.  The punch is from Martha Stewart.  The background is from the Bodacious Background Stamp CD called Watered Dylusions.  What a fun and cool technique.  I did this card up for our Nana for Mother's Day.  She loves a good slot machine.

Shaped Stencil Giraffe by Judy Jackson

One of the things I love about the Technique Junkie newsletter (and there are many!) is how Pat - and others - come up with ways to use the tools and supplies we have in fun and new ways.  This is one of those techniques!

Stencils have been the "in thing" during the last few years.  We have had brass stencils available for a long time but these stencils are the thin plastic kind.

This technique sparked my creative thinking in how can I make a background that will not only enhance the foreground image but coordinate with it?    I started with looking through my stencils and then chose my focal image stamp.  It worked!

Stamp credits are Prickly Pear for the giraffe and Stampin' Up for the verse.   The giraffe is colored in with Copic markers.

Birds and Anique Glimmers by Judy Jackson

One of the things I love about the Technique Junkie newsletter is -- well it should be obvious -- learning new techniques!  And every  now and then, there is a technique that just becomes a "go to technique" that I use over and over and over. And one of those techniques is the Antique Glimmers technique from the December 2009 issue. I love the way the backgrounds come out.  I love the way that every background paper is unique.  I love that you can layer on it, stamp on it, layer with it, and a lot of other things. It is one of those very versatile techniques.

I stamped the man looking at the bird in the tree on some card stock on which I used the Antique Glimmers technique. This whole stamp is one of the many stamps form the Technique Junkie line of stamps - and you can find this stamp here -- http://www.stampcamp.com/atc2.html  .

The man and birds image focal point is then layered on a background which was stamped on glossy paper.  I used a Kaliedacolor pad of blues and greens, brayered the ink directly to the stamp before stamping the image. After the ink dried, I applied Versamark ink all over the image and covered it with clear embossing powder.   I had some funky bling type glitter stuff ready and as I embossed the background, I sprinkled on the bling. Then the embossing powder became the adhesive holding the bling in place.  This background stamp is also a TJ stamp and can be found on this web page --

I have four samples for you to see today.  The techniques for these cards use techniques found on this Bodacious Background Stamp CD.  This first card uses the Distress Stains Direct technique.  The stamps are from Impression Obsession (the background stamp) and Technique Junkie Stamps (the flower and the verse).  You can find the flower on this web page: http://www.stampcamp.com/nature1.html, and the verse on this web page - http://www.stampcamp.com/wordsandsayings2.html.  The flower stamp was colored with marker directly to the rubberstamp.
