TJ Inkspirations: Stenciled Bands using Distress Oxide Inks

I've had this little technique rolling around in my head for a few weeks. I was torn between making it simple, or more complicated - I chose the simple route. I can always post a more complicated version another time, right? I chose to use Distress Oxide Inks for my tutorial. You can use what you have, though. I just find that they move very nicely on paper. I also managed to show you my most favorite tip of all time in the video, too. Hello friends!! Hope you all are having a great day! Today, I want to share with you a super cute and elegant card.

For this project I used the rose from the new set "Faith, Hope, Love". I stamped it the image several times on a piece of White cardstock in Memento Tuxedo Black, then colored the roses with markers, even the background, I also added clear shimmer to the roses, but it was very hard to photograph. Stamped the sentiment on a piece of Vellum in Brown ink and adhered it to image.

After that, I die-cut the image and created a die-cut frame as well from watercolor paper, added it on top of the image with foam tape.

Finally, I added the image to a white card base, added a bow and pearls.

Our challenge to you is to make an ATC in a Spring theme. 

Never made an Artist Trading Card (ATC) before? It's easy! 

Cut your cardstock (or whatever paper you plan to use) to 2 1/2" by 3 1/2" and get decorating! Think small!

ATC's are great to have around to add to a card base for a quick card.

Here is a template that shows how to cut 10 ATCs from one sheet of cardstock.

Here are a couple examples of ATCs using stamps from the latest Technique Junkies release.

Variations on a Stone Wall

One of my favorite stamps from the February Release is the Stone Wall Background.  I have always loved the tactile feel and the various colors of stone and brick walls.

First I tried lots of different color combinations with my stone ... I love the versatility of this stamp & the awesome variation you get when you mix-up the paper and inks.

The stones reminded me of the pattern on a giraffe's skin, so combining the stone with the new Why Fit In stamp seemed like the first place to start.

I stamped him in Brown and used two shades of gold to color him in ... and a grey marker for those super-fun goggles.

I finished with a sentiment from the Typewriter Set (seriously, those sentiments are so versatile).

For my next card, I used my MISTI to stamp over the brick wall using the gorgeous Cottage Rose.

I finished with a sentiment from the With Sympathy Set of 5.

The final color combination I used reminded me of a foggy London day, so I used stamps from the London Calling Set of 9 Stamps on top of the Stone Wall Background.

How to make Transitional Ombre

Beth Norman here with a tutorial on how to make transitional ombre, which was initially filmed for the October 2014 issue of the Technique Junkie Newsletter. Today I am using the goggle wearing giraffe, Why Fit in?

Supplies:  One colour of cardstock going from light to dark, glue pen and elongated die

Cut your cardstock with your embossing machine

Glue your cardstock onto cardstock, from light to dark or dark to light.  And that's there is all to it.  Finish you card as desired.

Hi Everyone!

I just purchased some of the Distress Oxide inks; I know, I am a bit late to the party, but I was
pretty happy with the plan ol' distress inks!  I heat embossed the hearts 3 times and then painted them with distress oxides.  I used Spiced Marmalade, Peacock Feathers and Twisted Citron.  I then masked the hearts off and sponged the remainder of the card with the Twisted Citron and Peacock Feathers.  To add texture, I placed a stencil around the edges of the card and dabbed with a damp cloth to lift oxidize the color.  Black splatter adds interest. Lastly, balloon strings were drawn in with a Micron pen.
The sentiment, Donuts Happy Birthday, was heat embossed on a black panel.  The image panel was die cut out with a stitched rectangle die and the card was assembled.
