Simple and Quick Card Ideas!

Hello, folks and happy last day of March! I'm hoping that this post finds you fortunate in creative places. I've got two cards to share, one with the adorable Birthday Cat stamp and another with Big Butterfly Collage background stamp.

Anyone could use a deal, right?

of the month!

I've grown fond of simple cards and Birthday Cat (shown above) makes it easy. Stamped in the corner with black ink safe for alcohol markers and just a few colors it took no time to complete. A repeated sentiment (from Simple Sentiments 1b Stamp Set) in complementary ink colors to the party hat was lined up using a stamp positioner, and the whole card was finished with a couple of color cardstocks to frame the white space.

I had one more inspiration with Big Butterfly Collage from the March release, and it took longer figuring out ink and watercolors than actually making the card. Background stamps make quick cards!

The background was inked in layers with yellow and green distress ink, then framed with two shades of blue distress oxide inks. A butterfly was colored directly on the stamp with watercolor markers and then stamped on watercolor paper. Once dry it was cut out and popped up on the background image.  Adding a holiday sentiment for any occasion can be added with Simple Sentiments 1b Stamp Set.

Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!

TJ Inkspirations: Creating Shadows with Nuvo Mousse

I realize that I have been using the Nuvo Mousse and Paste products quite a bit in videos recently, and I promise you that I will go back to using other things again next week.  I have just been very inspired by the ideas rolling around my little pea brain to use these products, and I cannot help but share!

Today's video shows you a quick way to use the Nuvo Embellishment Mousse to create a drop shadow with a stencil. It is so easy!

Before we get to the video, I just wanted to remind you that we will be releasing our April New Release stamps on Sunday, April 1st.
I know that happens to fall on Easter...but I hope you will stop by and take a look at what we have in store for you - and remember that the stamps will still be there after Easter day! The new April 2018 designs will be discounted 15% through April 8th. Look for an email from me on Sunday reminding you about the stamps and the gorgeous blog hop we have in store for you.

You are the World

S782 Love Harlequin You are the World

Hello friends!! Giovana here today with a card using a lot of heat embossing, one of my very first favorite techniques, easy, elegant and fast to make.
Mother's Day is coming soon and I have the perfect card to give to your mom, mother-in-law or your favorite mom/friend in the world.

Let me show the details:
* Stamp the Love Harlequin on a piece of watercolor paper in  Versamark Watermark Ink. Then add white embossing powder and heat set.
* After that, using a sponge applicator add Wilted Violet Distress Oxide and Worn Lipstick Distress Ink all around the image, clean your image with a paper towel to make the white heat embossing pop.
* Die-cut panel and adhere it to a white card base with foam adhesive.
* Stamp sentiment from You are the World set in Purple ink on a piece of gold cardstock. Die-cut piece.
* Stamp flowers on vellum in Versamark Watermark Ink, add gold embossing powder and heat set. Fussy cut the flowers and add them behind the sentiment. Die-cut a white square and add it behind the sentiment. Add to card base with foam adhesive.
* Add pearls.

You can get these sets with a 10% off using my code TJ10Giovana

Hope you like my project.
Have an amazing day!

Bunny & Books

I love finding inspiration at The Library Challenge.  I love books, and I am particularly drawn to the art work found on book covers (I often did choose my books by their covers).

Remember, if you go shopping at Technique Junkies, use my discount code TJ10Stephanie for 10% off your purchase.

This week's Library Challenge is to make a card inspired by the lovely cover of Watership Down by Richard Adams.

I knew I wanted to incorporate the adorable new Technique Junkies Little Bunny Stamp together with the Stop and Smell the Flowers Sentiment.

I also knew I wanted to use the current Technique Junkies Sketch Challenge (You have until April 15th to link-up your sketch cards).

Since it's a library challenge, I started with the Technique Junkies Books Background inked in three shades of Color Burst Ink (Turquoise, Fuchsia & Orchid), which I thought brought in the glow of the sky on the book cover.

Next I stamped the TJ ATC Library Card in Kraft Ink and then stamped my Little Bunny using Chocolate Truffle ink.

I finished by attaching my TJ Stop and Smell the Flowers sentiment using foam tape for dimension.

Can't wait to see what you create with this month's sketch.

Get a Bigger Bow

Hi! Jeanne here today!

I like to mix and match stamps and sentiments.
Today I have a fun mixup using Birthday Cat along with the sentiment from Bigger Bow.
I  think it would be a perfect card to cheer someone up that's having a bad day.

I started by stamping the Birthday Cat. I put a bit of tape on the hat portion before I inked the stamp and then removed the tape before stamping. The blank portion is covered by the bow. Easy masking trick. I watercolored the cat and background & then stamped just the phrase portion of Bigger Bow.

Perfect Atoms

Hello Junkies!
It's Ceal, with you day sharing this card using one of our March releases,
Perfect Atoms. You can save 10% on this set and your entire order using my code TJ10Ceal and who doesn't like saving money?
I am so ready for spring, we just got done with snow and more is on the way so to lift my spirits I am using spring colors and papers on my card.

To make my card I started with a white top folding card base and some plaid patterned paper by Lawn Fawn. I colored the birds using Chameleon pens. To keep it CAS with lots of white space I only added the patterned paper to the corner of my card.

TJ Inkspirations: Glitter Marker Colored Glimmer Paste

I had an epiphany this week, and this video tutorial is the result. I had a "what if..." moment, and I just knew in my heart that it would work.

Oh Man, did it ever!

Today I present the gorgeous look of using  Nuvo Glimmer Paste to cover  background paper, and then using Glitter Markers to color the image right over the paste. The result is Glittery, Glimmery, Shimmery - just spectacular in person. Not only that, but it isn't messy and it is EASY. What could be better?

Butterfly Collage

Hello lovely peeps!   Welcome!  Lynda Joy here with more inspiration for you from our Technique Junkies March New Stamp Release.
For my card today, I chose this beautiful Big Butterfly Collage stamp.  I love 'whole card' stamps like this, and this one is a beauty!
I inked it up with Tim Holtz distress ink in Antique Linen, using my Misti.  This way I could see the image and where all the components were.  I then used Tombow markers on the stamp to place color on the individual areas.  I used a paintbrush with water to pull out the color, then overstamped again with the Misti.  I continued in this fashion until I reached my desired look.

When I took it out of the Misti, I used distress ink around the edges, and added some colored pencil highlights and shading here and there.  Some embroidery thread and beads along the edge, and sequins on the card finish it off.

I hope you will stop by our TJ Facebook Group .  There are lots of ideas and inspiration there from my Design Team comrades.  We would love to see some of your cards or projects there.

Don't forget, use my code, TJ10Lynda to get 10% off your purchase at Technique Junkies!

I appreciate your encouraging comments and feedback!

Blessings,

Playing with Color Burst!

Hi, Junkies! Recently I have been playing around with the Ken Oliver's Color Burst Powders. It's a pleasant surprise each and every time. I used colors from the Fresh Florals 6-pack. The colors included are Peony, Marigold, Sap Green, Naples Yellow, Prussian Blue and Wisteria. Even the names are colorful! There are five different sets available through Technique Junkies. The other sets include: Brights, Caribbean Brights, Earthtones and Rich Moroccan Shades.  And the good news is that you can save 10% off any of these sets by using the code "TJ10Ro" at checkout!

I have to admit that I had a hard time deciding which set to start out with. I already had some that I had previously purchased and they were darker shades, so I knew I wanted something bright. And since I love floral stamps, I decided to go with the Fresh Florals.  The first card I whipped up included Peony, Wisteria and Sap Green.

I stamped the image, Rose Doodles, and embossed it using Nuvo Embossing Powder. I then carefully tapped the Peony and Wisteria powders mainly where the flower was. The Sap Green was tapped in the area of the leaves. A few spritzes of water and VOILA! A beautiful image appeared! I added the sentiment from Donuts Happy Birthday and mounted the panel on a purple card base.  I love the subtle patches of color like blue and purple that magically appear in the powders. I was having so much fun, I decided to do a second card using Peony and Marigold.

I stamped the Itoh Peonies and embossed them with black EP. I then randomly sprinkled the powders over the image (a little goes a long way!) and spritzed with water. O.M.G.! The colors! I trimmed down the piece and matted it with a pink layer and then attached it to a purple base.  The sentiment, Feng Shui, was stamped in black on an orange piece of CS, trimmed and attached.  All the colors play so nicely together without overwhelming.

I hope you grab some of these wonderful powders (and STAMPS!!) to play with. You will be amazed with the magic that happens when you add water. And remember:

Til next time,
Keepin' it inky!

Here's how you do it - Shop.Use my discount Code TJ10Cheri.Get Your Stamps.Join Challenge.Enter to Win $25.00 worth of more fabulous TJ Stamps.  BTW...my discount also applies to Ken Oliver ColorBurst Pigment Powders.   YAY!!!

I'm sharing a card with you today using some of those powders to make my background and an awesome stamp from the February 2018 Release called "Something Different".

I used water color paper to create my background.  I started with a water wash and mixed my pigments on a palette before adding them to the panal.  I love how those powders have tiny fragments of different colors (see the greens and blues) within them.  You never know what you'll get and I love that spontaneity of this.  I used Adirondack Pesto ink to stamp the image using my MISTI.  After I got that image, I moved the card panel barely 1/16th inch and stamped it again in Versafine "Toffee" color ink for a yellowish "shadow".  I used NUVO citrus green mousse with water to color the inside of the butterfly....what happened is it lifted the pigment bg but left a pretty sheen.  I love happy accidents.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you found some inspiration and I hope to see you on our FaceBook page and in our challenge.  Don't forget, you can use my discount to get those stamps you want and need for our challenge.

For the Birds!

Hello, Hello!

Today's card is CAS, but with what I would consider a mixed media kind of style.  I was inspired by a Technique Junkie fan, Karen Dunbrook, who does wonders with distress inks for backgrounds.
I used one of the March new release stamps, 'Fly',  which you can get at a 10% discount using the code TJ10LeeAnn.

The image panel is a a piece of water color paper.  Distress inks were used; I put the colors down on my craft mat, spritzed them with water, then picked up the color I desired with a piece of acetate and smooshed it onto the paper.  I repeated this multiple times, layering the colors til I got the desired look.
Once dry, the image was stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with black embossing powder.  I added a stitched edge to the left side of the panel to give it a more finished look.  A strip of black paper was added to the right edge to make the colors pop and then the panel was popped up on the card base using a piece of craft foam.  Sequins add just enough sparkle.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

If you shop don't forget your 10% discount on your order with code TJ10LeeAnn.

Shopping at Technique Junkies today?
Use code TJ10Janelle for a
10% discount on regular items!

I decided to challenge myself by starting my card base with a shade of green in honor of today's holiday. I wasn't sure if I could layer colors over the top of it and boy did I have fun!

Here's my supplies and what I did.

Supplies:
Plus:
  • Waterproof Black Ink Pad
  • Distress Oxide Ink Pads (shown) or Gouache Paint - pink, purple and yellow
  • Watercolor Paper
  • Paintbrushes
  • White Paint (not shown)
  • Black Pen Fine
Instructions:
  1. In a plastic palette or non-porous tray use Phthalo Green and a little Lemon Yellow Color Burst along with water to make a liquid watercolor.
  2. Spread all over watercolor paper with brush and let dry. If desired, lift color off with paper towel while wet.
  3. Stamp Itoh Poppies with waterproof black ink onto green watercolor paper.
  4. With oxide inks or gouache paint (add white gouache for same effect as oxide inks) color flowers leaving areas of green exposed.
  5. Use white paint to splatter drops around center flower. Use a torn paper or crumpled paper towel to cover center of paper for a mask. Let paint dry.
  6. Use a water loaded paint brush to dilute white paint and use to highlight edges of paper. Let dry.
  7. Stamp a sentiment with the words Happy and Day on leftover green paper. Trim and glue onto peonies background.
  8. Draw a border around background and sentiment words with undiluted white paint. When dry repeat with black pen for scribbling line detail.
  9. Glue onto white card base.
